spray and ink formulas are different, and when you put hair spray on clothes, you create a sticky mess that is even harder for us to deal with. At Janet Davis Cleaners, we have a special product called "Ink Go," which essentially allows me to push ink entirely out of one fabric and into another using some chemistry magic. So, while hair spray may have worked before, we have more modern solutions that work even better now without the hassle.

Don't Get Duped by Dry Cleaning Myths! 5 Things We Wish People Didn't Believe

MYTH NO. 2: WHEN YOU SPILL SOMETHING ON YOUR CLOTHES, USE WATER OR SOAP TO RUB IT OUT. Please, if there's one thing you take from this article, let it be never to rub a stain on your clothes! Not only does rubbing a stain damage the fabric, but most of the clothes we wear are top-dyed, and by rubbing a stain, you rub the dye right out. So, when we use our special methods to remove the stain previously “scrubbed,” a lighter-colored spot will remain where you rubbed the dye out. Instead, simply blot the spot and try to absorb as much of the spilled liquid as you can that way. We'll handle the rest from there! MYTH NO. 3: YOU CAN USE CLUB SODA TO LIFT STAINS OUT. Unfortunately, this is completely false. Club soda does nothing for stains other than cause some bubbling action. Look at it this way: If water doesn't work, neither will club soda. MYTH NO. 4: HAIR SPRAY GETS OUT INK STAINS. Once upon a time, this myth was actually true. Back when this idea first began circulating, our hair sprays likely had higher concentrations of alcohol, which was the agent breaking up the ink. Today's hair

Did you know that Jan. 25 is Opposite Day? Yes, it actually exists! It's a holiday where things are typically said or done in an opposite manner, and in the spirit of this quirky occasion, I want to talk about some things you might have heard about dry cleaning that are a little backward themselves. In fact, some of these myths are the exact opposite of what I'd recommend to our clients! So, from stain-removal "hacks" to common misconceptions, I'm busting the top five myths to set the record straight once and for all. MYTH NO. 1: DRY CLEANING IS ‘DRY.’ Many people believe it's called "dry cleaning" because the clothes never get wet. This is not true! When you drop your clothes off to get dry cleaned, they DO get wet. The difference is instead of using water, we use something called a "non-water-based solvent." The truth is that water can be extremely harsh on clothes and can even ruin them over time. Our non-water-based solvent is so gentle that we can wash a paper napkin in it, and it comes out entirely whole.

MYTH NO. 5: CEDAR CLOSETS REPEL MOTHS.

Many people have cedar closets built into their homes, hoping to keep their clothes moth-free. But, unfortunately, for a cedar closet to actually work, it needs to be sanded down at least once a year. Essentially, each fall, you should take fine-grit sandpaper to any cedar surface of the closet to re-release the oils that keep moths away. If you're not doing that or haven't done it in over a year, your cedar closet is, well, just a closet. And here's the thing: Sanding down your closet walls is really beside the point. Moths only eat our clothes because of the sweat and skin cells they find there. So, if you want to prevent moths from turning your clothes into Swiss cheese, simply make sure you only put them away after they've been cleaned. There you have it — the real scoop on some backward beliefs about dry cleaning. I'd love to hear of any dry cleaning myths not on my list above. Feel free to share them with us next time you stop in!

So, while your clothes may not be soaked in water when they're here, they still get wet!

LUXE SHEETS DESERVE LUXE CARE

Starting now and into the next few months, the one thing most places have in common is a chilly outside temperature. In fact, in January 2023, the average temperature in the U.S. was 35 degrees F! So, it's no wonder most people stay inside where it's toasty, and part of the enjoyment in doing so is that cozy feeling a warm home in a cold winter can bring us. But what if, despite your heater running, your home doesn't feel all that cozy? Feeling cozy can involve blankets, hot chocolate, or crackling fires, but everyone's preferences differ. Here are a few key things anyone can do to up the cozy factor in their space this winter. Chase Away the Winter Chill Transform Your Space With Cozy Comfort!

In the world of bedding, high thread count sheets are the epitome of luxury and comfort. The densely woven fabric creates a silky-smooth texture that's a delight to touch and a feast for the eyes. They can even help your body

preserve heat as you sleep! Have you considered the best way to care for these bedtime treasures as you revel in the soft embrace of your 400, 800,

NO. 1: YOU HAVE A COLD HOME IF YOU HAVE A COLD FLOOR. By this, we mean if you don't have rugs on your hard floors, you're losing out on some major cozy points. Rugs make you feel warmer and more comfortable when your feet land on something other than ice-cold tile and make rooms appear fuller!

or 1,000-thread count sheets? Enter the unsung heroes of textile care — dry cleaners. While it might seem like an extra step, dry cleaning high thread count sheets is a game-changer. Here's why. Dry cleaners can remove stubborn stains and oils that accumulate over time without compromising the fabric's integrity. Say goodbye to the remnants of late-night snacks or the accidental spill of your morning coffee — dry cleaning keeps your sheets looking as pristine as the day you bought them. Industrial-grade soaps and specific spotting agents will keep your sheets cleaner for longer while assuring your home laundry machine doesn’t destroy all those comfortable threads. Beyond preserving your investment, there's the added benefit of convenience — no more wrestling with oversized sheets in your home machines, rewashing them, or running the load through the drier multiple times to get them all dry. Dry cleaners streamline the process, returning your sheets to you crisp, clean, and ready to envelop you in a cocoon of comfort. Additionally, these high thread count sheets are always wrinkly unless you iron them after washing them. At Janis Davis Cleaning, we can do a more efficient job than a home iron. Our 120” wide flatwork ironer (think of those oversized mangles from a long time ago) will get those sheets pressed in a jiffy. Sleeping on pressed sheets is like sleeping on a cloud, adding a new dimension to those cushion threads. So, as you tuck yourself into the luxury of high thread count sheets, consider this a friendly reminder — treat these luxurious sheets with the specialized care they deserve. Your bedtime indulgence deserves nothing less.

NO. 2: NATURE BRINGS WARMTH. During those colder months, it's likely many plants aren't thriving outside. Everything holds that bare-bones appearance, which leaves cold, empty space. Our brains associate organic materials, like wood, foliage, fruits, and vegetables, with warm weather because that's when they grow! So, when the outside lacks a natural glow, bring the warmth inside by adding something organic to every room. NO. 3: FLUFF IT UP! And finally, there is no feeling cozier than a soft blanket or our pet's fluffy fur against our skin. We want to feel enveloped by these fluffy things, so a great way to make your space more cozy is to switch out those thin throws, beaded or smooth pillows, and opt for softer textures. Choose towels and blankets you feel like you can sink into!

By applying these three pillars of cozy living, you can create an indoor space you'll never want to leave this winter.

GIVE YOUR JACKETS SOME TLC AT JDC

As the winter chill sets in, your trusty winter jacket becomes your armor against the elements. But have you ever wondered why giving your winter or ski jacket a trip to the cleaners is more than just a good idea? Let's explore why you should trust the professionals. With their water-resistant fabrics and insulation, winter jackets are designed to withstand the harshest weather conditions. However, they also become magnets for various winter woes — salt stains, coffee spills, and general wear and tear. This is where the magic of cleaning comes in. At Janet Davis Cleaners, our meticulous care cleaning each winter or ski jacket is a game-changer. Unlike conventional washing machines, dry cleaning machines use a solvent-based process that is gentle but highly effective at removing stains and preserving the integrity of delicate fabrics. Every jacket receives personalized

attention, ensuring it returns to you clean and unscathed. We read care labels and ensure specialized care is given to your favorite garments. Most people think that if something is dry cleaned, it’s automatically the highest level of care a garment can receive. But the reality is that the dry cleaning method is just as likely to ruin certain items as any other cleaning method is. Some of your coats are down-filled, which would deteriorate with the dry cleaning method. We wet clean those particular garments but dry clean your wool jacket. What you receive at our cleaners is experience, training, tools, and the specialized knowledge to get your clothes the care they need. The cleaning method we use in-house should be invisible to our customers, and our Odor-Free, Environmentally Friendly guarantee applies no matter which method your clothes need.

So, as you welcome the winter, consider giving your trusty winter or ski jacket the VIP treatment it deserves at Janet Davis Cleaners. With individualized care and a commitment to preserving the details that make your jacket unique, we ensure your winter wear stands the test of time, no matter the season. We put out a request last year asking you to return hangers and were amazed by your response! So many people returned hangers, but we still need more as the shortage continues. Thank you to all who have returned hangers recently! Please, keep up the good work! Thanks for Returning Them! THE HANGER SHORTAGE CONTINUES

You could easily miss a lot happening above our atmosphere if you didn’t stay up late or watch the news beforehand. Once the sun sets tonight, look up at the sky. As long as you’re not in an area with heavy light pollution, you should be able to see brilliant constellations. On some nights, you may even see more than you expected. No, we’re not talking about UFOs or little green men but about naturally occurring phenomena deep in outer space. Several unique events take place in 2024. Here are the highlights you don’t want to miss! METEOR SHOWERS Seeing a shooting star is magical, but witnessing a meteor shower is awe- inspiring.
