Choose Certified Organic

D o you know the organic’? Read on to find out . Do you buy organic products? Great! But it would be even better for you and the environment if they were certified organic. In Australia, there is limited control over the use of the term ‘organic’. Any company can use this term in their product’s name or labelling, however this does not mean that it has passed the same strict standards as a certified organic product. For example, a product labelled as being ‘organic’ may contain just one organic ingredient and also could have been processed using synthetic chemicals, meaning that it is not truly organic. The term ‘certified organic’, on the other difference between ‘organic’ and ‘certified

hand, means that the farm, product or service has been independently and third party-verified by a certification body as being organic. This means that every part of the supply chain - from sourcing the ingredients, to manufacturing, processing and all the way through to getting into stores - has been through rigorous testing and has adhered to a standard, such as the Australian Certified Organic Standard (ACOS). Choosing certifiedorganic products not only give peace of mind; it also means that the particular brand or company has complied with strict certification standards. There are currently six Government- approved certification bodies in Australia, the Australian Organic-owned ‘bud’ logo is the most recognised. 51 per cent of shoppers say that they recognise this logo, which is found on over 32,000 products. Just look for the bud!
