A TRIBUTE TO TOMMY FUQUA

Thomas “Tommy” Howard Fuqua, Jr., known by friends and family as “Bronc”, was born in Atlanta, Texas, on July 13, 1942 to Thomas Howard, Sr. and Mina Margaret Allday Fuqua. Tommy died August 28, 2020 in Texarkana, Texas. He attended the University of Arkansas and was a highly honored golfer for the Razorbacks. While at Arkansas, he expanded his true gentleman’s code and joined the SAE fraternity. Many lifelong friendships and unique bonds were made. Tommy joined his family’s funeral business in Texarkana, Texas, which his father, Howard, and Harry L. Everett established as Texarkana Funeral Home. It was at the new facility on Texas Boulevard that Tommy Fuqua went to work in 1966. Over the years he transformed the funeral business, built an insurance company, and was successful in many other business ventures. He married Marjorie Roy Vickers in 1966 and they had two sons, who have comically and gracefully followed in Tommy’s footsteps. He is survived by his sons, Thomas Howard Fuqua, III and Richard Vickers Fuqua, and Vicker’s wife Whitney. He also had four grandchildren, Bella, Ayres, Ford and Alexandra Fuqua, all of whom he adored. He is also survived by his sister, Becky Sutter, and a multitude of extended family and friends. Tommy Fuqua had the gift of timing. He knew when to make a business deal, when to tell a funny joke, and when to help a family

in their hour of need. Tommy’s quick wit, charming character, and larger-than-life presence will be sorely missed. His enthusiasm for aviation, golf, hunting, and fishing came second only to his family and business priorities. Navigating through all these hobbies opened so many doors that led to friendships and memories that he deeply cherished. Tommy was generous and loyal to everyone around him.
