Izložba traje do 7. novembra.
An exhibition of the works of Milovan DeStil Marković has opened at Dorćol’s Moderna Gallery, presenting the works of one of the most important artists of the 1980s. The public thus has an opportunity to enjoy mostly large-format paintings from the ’80s that are connected by a kind of minimalism. These works, which were exhibited at, among other places, the Ven- ice Biennale, the Triennale India and the Salon of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Belgrade, are dominated by the use of bitumen and gold leaf. Marković’s large body of work was created in the early 1980s, after he completed his fine art studies in Belgrade, and his ar- tistic infancy is linked to the famous gallery of the Students’ Cultural Centre. It was back in the ’80s that DeStil studied the icons and fresco painting of Serbian-Byzantine medieval mon- uments, which would go on to be reflected significantly in his understanding of art. DeStil’s works are included in numer- ous collections worldwide, while he is a recipient of numerous awards and accolades, as well as being among the pioneers of new painting techniques in Serbia and Yugoslavia, one of the protagonists of the spirit of the new wave, known to the gener- al public as a founder (together with Vlastimir Mikić) of the duo “Žestoki” and the cult Belgrade club Akademija. The exhibition runs until 7 th November.
