music from our part of the world – from Serbia or the Balkans generally? “We are very inspired by our passionate fans in the Balkans. There is a strong resonance with the people here. I've worked with some Bulgarian singers and Turk- ish musicians, as well as DJing and playing gigs with various Serbian musicians and DJs. It’s definitely a musical region that I’d like to ex- plore more. I love the mixture of sounds and cultures that you can hear through the various forms of music in the Balkans.” Your compositions invite listeners on a transform- ative journey. Where do you want us to go? “I think the compositions want to transcend the ordinary world to experience a place that touch- es many different locations and times, to an inward location that exists beyond cultures and geogra-

“Serbia is one of our favour- ite markets to play. From Tašma- jdan in Belgrade to the festival in Kragujevac, the crowds have been very energetic and big supporters of Thievery Corporation. I remem- ber DJing at Exit back in the day and being blown away. We are al- ways happily surprised to feel the level of excitement when playing to the Serbian audience! I can't wait to get back.” Will your DJ set in No- vember bring us some new material or the best of Thievery Corporation? “This will be more of a fun Dis- co-House set featuring some new material, as well as some old clas- sics. I’m always exploring musi- cally and am happy to share that with the listeners and audience.” You draw inspiration from your travels and di- verse cultural influences. Is there anything in your

phy. Music is a form of transport for me, one that can instantly take you to places from your childhood or to the future.” With the Thievery Corpo- ration duo, you’ve helped shape the landscape of electronic music by fusing elements and with crosso- vers... Where is that kind of music now? “We've always been interested in taking influences from our re- cord collections and mixing them with many different styles and sounds to form something that was uniquely our own. I think that makes our music stand out from a lot of other peoples’, as well as the fact that it's multi-genre and crosses over into many different styles. We are right now just start- ing to think about creating some new music, so it will be interest- ing to see where the next chap- ters take us.”
