ABOUT THE AUTHORS
Franchette Monique I. Abalde She is a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Criminology from PHINMA Cagayan de Oro College. In April 2015, she took the criminologist licensure examination and ranked third. She pursued her graduate studies and completed her Master of Science in Criminology in 2018. Ms. Abalde is in her second year of Juris Doctor studies at Ateneo de Cagayan, Xavier University. She is affiliated with the Professional Criminologists Association of the Philippines, Inc., and the Asian Criminological Society. She has also presented several research studies both locally and abroad.
Gerry J. Caño, PhD He is a criminologist by profession with strong linkages among criminologists here and abroad. He is a member of the American Society of Criminology and the Asian Criminological Society, and he is a convenor of the 11th Asian Criminology Society Conference. He is also a member of the International Society of Criminology, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Technical Panel for Criminal Justice Education, and the Professional Regulation Commission’s Continuing Professional Development Council of Criminology. Dr. Caño is the dean of the College of Criminology at PHINMA Cagayan de Oro College (COC). Through his vision and leadership, PHINMA COC has consistently produced top-notch graduates who are often on the roster of successful board examinees. Moreover, COC is increasingly being recognized for its remarkable board-passing performance under the continued guidance of Dean Caño. Under his management, COC has been given the Center of Excellence in Criminology Award by CHED. He is instrumental in shaping the direction of criminology education and profession in the country, resulting in the passage of Republic Act No. 11131, also known as The Philippine Criminology Profession Act of 2018.
