A Course Module for The Teaching of Science
A Course Module for Teaching of Science is designed to help teachers and in-service preservice teachers acquire substantial knowledge and skills in teaching science effectively at the secondary level. The module provides the essentials of teaching science at the secondary level—specifically, the aims and goals of science, curriculum standards, learning experiences, and science learning competencies. It also contains a guide on selecting, evaluating, and developing various relevant and effective instructional materials for teaching science. Students are equipped to design engaging instructional materials in the fields of General Science, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, utilize appropriate assessment tools that are aligned with lesson objectives, and employ effective teaching techniques for various types of learners.
ABOUT THE AUTHORS
Joel B. Faustino
He graduated with a Master of Education in Curriculum Development from Ehime University in 2012 and a Master of Arts in Education with a major in Curriculum Studies from the University of the Philippines-Diliman in 2010. He earned his Bachelor of Elementary Education, major in Preschool Education, from Bulacan State University in 2002. In the same year, he obtained his professional teacher license while working as a preschool teacher and was soon promoted to school principal. He is a permanent faculty member of the College of Education at Bulacan State University, teaching professional education and preschool major subjects.
Eden Joy P. Alata
She is a full-time professor in the Biological Sciences Department at Centro Escolar University-Manila. She holds a Master of Science in Biology from De La Salle University-Manila and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of the East-Manila. She was granted a scholarship by the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD) while pursuing her Master in Biology. She co-authored General Education Curriculum (GEC) textbooks, Understanding the Self and Science, Technology, and Society and A Course Module for Teaching Strategies for Elementary Science (Physics, Earth, and Space Science).
Antonnette B. Pawilen
She graduated from the University of the Philippines-Los Baños with a BA in Philosophy, magna cum laude. She has received the University President’s Medal, the College of Arts and Sciences Medal of Merit for academic excellence, and the Department of Humanities Medal for academic excellence. She is a member of The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. She is also currently a researcher and writer on a variety of Science, Technology, and Society topics. Her interests include Filipino Philosophy, Ethics, Philosophy of Religion, and Philosophy of Science.
