A Course Module for Child Development

Child Development is a specialization course that supports the core competencies expected of students at the tertiary level pursuing a degree in Early Childhood Education. It is designed to provide students with a solid foundation in the fundamental facts about human development. It is crucial for aspiring early childhood educators to gain a deeper understanding of how children grow, develop, and learn through the different stages of childhood. This module also highlights basic theoretical principles that serve as a guide in recognizing the various developmental patterns that children experience. This module equips students with the knowledge and skills necessary to become better educators and provides innovative ideas to address the challenges children face in their daily lives. The authors aim to make a positive contribution by empowering the Filipino youth as they begin their journey as educators.

ABOUT THE AUTHORS

Katherine E. del Rosario

She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Human Ecology from the University of the Philippines Los Baños. She is also a graduate of the Master of Family Life and Child Development program at UP Diliman. Her specialization is in early childhood psychology, development, and education. She is currently an assistant professor in the Department of Human and Family Development Studies (DHFDS), College of Human Ecology, UPLB, where she teaches courses on human development across lifespan, child psychology, and other related subjects. Del Rosario is also the program head of the recently launched extension of DHFDS, the Families of Children with Exceptionalities (FaCEs) Resource Center.

Rufo Gil Z. Albor

Dr. Albor is an assistant professor at the University of the Philippines-Los Baños (UPLB). He holds a Ph.D. in Extension Education and a master’s degree in Education Management. Currently, he is the chair of the Department of Human and Family Development Studies, and he teaches courses in Ecology and Value Systems and Principles of Human Development. He has extensive experience as a research consultant for organizations such as the Department of Education and the Department of Social Welfare and Development. He has contributed to a Child Development course module and various local and international scientific journal articles. Dr. Albor is also a mental health advocate and chairs UPLB Graduate School’s Committee on Social Sciences and Humanities.

ABOUT THE COORDINATOR

Dr. Pawilen earned his Master of Arts in Education and Doctor of Philosophy in Education, major in Curriculum Studies at the University of the Philippines-Diliman. He also completed his Master of Education in Curriculum Development and his postdoctoral study on Gifted Education in Science at Ehime University in Japan. He served as an associate professor of Curriculum Studies at UP-Diliman and as a member of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Technical Committee for Educational Leadership and Foundations. Currently, he teaches at the College of Human Ecology (CHE) and is the director of the Office for Institutional Development in Higher Education (OIDHE), UP-Los Baños. Greg Tabios Pawilen
