A Course Module for Teaching Social Studies in the Elementary Grades (Philippine History and Government) is a compelling learning resource designed to assist pre-service elementary teachers in understanding and appreciating the social studies curriculum in the Philippines. Lessons on theoretical and conceptual underpinnings, instructional planning, and teaching and assessment strategies are essential for realizing quality social studies education. ABOUT THE AUTHORS

Brenson Y. Andres

He is an assistant professor of social studies at the University of the Philippines Integrated School (UPIS), where he teaches elementary, junior high, and senior high school classes. He has served as the head of the Department of Social Studies since 2017 and is currently the head of the Social Sciences and Humanities Cluster. He earned his Bachelor of Secondary Education, with a double major in Social Studies and Communication Arts-English (magna cum laude) in 2010, and a Master of Arts in Asian Studies (Southeast Asia) in 2018 from UP-Diliman. He was a topnotcher in the April 2011 Licensure Examination for Teachers and a recipient of the 2018 Gawad Kolehiyo Maxima-Jorda-Velasquez Excellence in Teaching Award from the UP College of Education. He is a graduate of Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Social Studies (magna cum laude) from Nueva Vizcaya State University-Bambang in 2016. He completed his Master of Arts in Teaching Social Studies (cum laude) at Saint Mary’s University (SMU)-Bayombong in 2017. In 2018, he became a Private Education Assistance Committee (PEAC) trainer, facilitating training sessions for senior high school teachers. He also served as an academic coordinator of the SMU HUMSS Department before becoming a full-time faculty member of the School of Teacher Education and Humanities. At present, he serves as an instructor at the School of Graduate Studies in the same university. Ernest L. Esmeralda He immediately joined the teaching force after graduating with honors from the Philippine Normal University. During the first 11 years of his teaching career, he was given various opportunities in both public and private academic institutions. He taught at the elementary, secondary, and tertiary levels, handling social science subjects. He also served as a resource person, trainer, and facilitator in numerous training workshops to enhance the instructional competence of educators. Moreover, he was invited to write worktexts, manuals, and supplementary learning materials for elementary and high school levels.
