Teaching Profession (PATEF)

This textbook focuses on the suggested content and delivery of a three-unit course on Teaching Profession, which is a mandated professional education course for pedagogical content knowledge of three teacher education programs of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) in its Policies, Standards, and Guidelines (PSGs)—Bachelor of Early Childhood Education (BECEd), Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEEd), and Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSEd)—defined in its memorandum no. 74 to 76, series of 2017. The three-unit course covered by this textbook deals with the teacher as a person and as a professional within the context of national and global teachers’ standards and educational philosophies. It includes professional ethics, core values, awareness of professional rights, privileges, and responsibilities, as well as the teachers’ roles in society as a transformative agent of change. It provides learning opportunities for students that allow them to: (a) meet the program outcomes and standards of a beginning teacher; (b) develop their 21st century skills; and (c) be healthy, safe, engaged, supported, and challenged.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR-COORDINATOR

Celia M. llanan, PhD

She is the dean of the College of Flexible Learning and ePNU at the Philippine Normal University-Manila. She is also the former associate dean of the Faculty of Education Sciences and the head of the then Department of Elementary Education at the same university. Dr. llanan obtained her Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Management from PNU-Manila, where she also graduated cum laude for her Bachelor of Elementary Education with specialization in English. She attended national and international conferences and served as a lecturer in various preservice and in-service training programs, including the Board Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers (BLEPT) review. She also served as a field researcher, facilitator, and co-researcher for various university research projects. At present, she serves as the president of the Philippine Association for Teachers of Educational Foundations-United Professionals for the Development and Advancement of Teacher Education (PATEF-UPDATE), Inc.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Arthur S. Abulencia, PhD

He is an associate professor at the Philippine Normal University-Manila. He is the former officer-in-charge director of the Alumni Relations and Services Office at PNU-Manila. He earned his Doctor of Philosophy in Applied Cosmic Anthropology from the Asian Social Institute. He obtained his Master of Arts in Education and Bachelor of Secondary Education (cum laude) from PNU-Manila. Dr. Abulencia served as a resource person, trainer, and textbook writer in different professional and academic organizations. His researches are published in various national and international journals. Likewise, he attended conferences in Malaysia, China, South Korea, Thailand, and Japan.
