A Course Module for Purposive Communication
The course, Purposive Communication, focuses on writing, speaking, and presenting to different audiences and for various purposes (CMO 20s. 2013). It emphasizes the importance of purposeful and meaningful communication in the global and multicultural world we live in. The course consists of diverse and challenging tasks designed to enhance your critical thinking, listening, speaking, reading, writing, and viewing skills, as well as your intercultural competence in communicating with people from diverse backgrounds. You will be exposed to and challenged to use various digital tools to convey your ideas to audiences whose needs are shaped by their unique situations and cultures. By the end of the course, you should have acquired and mastered the essential knowledge, skills, and competencies that will help you achieve your academic and professional goals.
ABOUT THE AUTHORS
Jonna Marie A. Lim, Ph.D.
Jonna Marie A. Lim, Ph.D., is an assistant professor at De La Salle University (DLSU)-Manila, where she coordinates the AB English program within the Department of English and Applied Linguistics and teaches Purposive Communication. She earned her Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics and MA in Teaching English Language at DLSU after completing her BSE in English from Philippine Normal University-Manila. Formerly the high school principal of St. Scholastica’s College-Manila, her expertise and research interests include language testing and assessment, language teaching, curriculum design, and materials development. She holds an advanced certification in Language Testing from SEAMEO Regional Language Center, Singapore.
Elen Joy A. Bruza, MAEd
Elen Joy A. Bruza is currently the academic coordinator of the high school unit of St. Scholastica’s College-Manila. She has been teaching for 14 years. She currently teaches Practical Research Writing. She took her Bachelor of Secondary Education, Communication Arts and Master in Education Curriculum Studies from the University of the Philippines-Diliman. She is completing her Ph.D. in Educational Administration from the same university. Her passions include curriculum design, curriculum evaluation, research, and instructional design.
ABOUT THE COORDINATOR
He finished his Master of Arts in Education and Doctor of Philosophy in Education major in Curriculum Studies at the University of the Philippines-Diliman. He also completed his Master of Education in Curriculum Development and did a postdoctoral study on Gifted Education in Science at Ehime University in Japan. As a scholar, he has done numerous research works and published articles in national and international peer-reviewed journals. He served as a professor of Curriculum Studies at the University of the Philippines-Diliman for nine years. He became a member of CHED’s Technical Committee for Educational Leadership and Foundations for four years. He received various scholarship grants, such as the Mombukagakusho Research Scholarship, JASSO Research Fellowship Grant, and JASSO Student Support Scholarship. He finished his Ph.D. with the ‘Academic Excellence Award’ for getting the highest general weighted average among all the doctoral graduates. He also received the prestigious Pi Gamma Mu Award for Academic Excellence in Social Sciences. He was also a member of the Phi Kappa Phi International Honor Society. Currently, he is a professor of Curriculum Development and Evaluation and Human Development Studies at the University of the Philippines-Los Baños. Greg Tabios Pawilen, Ph.D.
