It’s party time in riverside communities

It will again be a feast of fun in communities along the Ottawa River during the weekend of July 1 st . A variety of activities, including the traditional Poker Run of Ford Mustang and Ford classic cars, are among some of the activities planned for the 6 th edition of the Ottawa River Festival. France D’Amour will be in Lefaivre on Saturday night. Her show will be preceded by that of Héloïse Yelle, a young artist from St-Pascal-Baylon. Hawkesbury will host DJ Dan Desnoyers (Dan D-Noy) in the afternoon, on Saturday, followed in the evening by 50 Proof and Hommage aux Colocs. On Saturday, L’Orignal will host la Chorale de l’Amitié and Sleepless Sinners in the evening. On Friday, June 30, in Rockland, classical rock fans will enjoy Sass Jordan’s performance on the Desjardins stage at Parc du Moulin, with the Sterling Band as the opening act. Saturday, the Rock Junkies will rock the stage. Sunday, the comical duo of Dominic and Martin, with Sylvain Larocque in the first part, will be on stage as well.

The next day, the family party at the beach in L’Orignal will be back, to the delight of young people and young at heart. One of the traditional events of this annual festival is undoubtedly the now famous Poker Run featuring Mustang cars and classic Ford models. Some 150 cars will participate in this activity. The cars will leave Rockland every 30 minutes on the morning of July 2 and will cross several communities. This event, organized by Rockland Ford, is also a fundraiser for the Canadian Breast Cancer Society.

The communities located along the shores of the Ottawa River have endeavored to offer dynamic programming for all tastes. This year, the nautical Poker Run is replaced by several new marine activities. For the first time, festival-goers will have the opportunity to contemplate the beauty of the river during the festival thanks to pontoon boat tours that will be offered at the five festival venues, at different times during these few days. Also canoe, kayak, pedal boats, a wide choice will be offered to the public. “People will board the pontoons,”said Annie Grenier, communications officer for the festival. “ We wanted festival attendees to be more involved in water sports this year.” On July 2, in Rockland, festival-goers can observe and even try a variety of recreational water sports. Downstream, Hawkesbury has planned free kayak, canoe and pedal boat trials as well as an introductory fishing activity. The community breakfast at Chute-à- Blondeau is also back.
