In 1995 Moisey’s family immigrated to the USA from Sa- markand, Uzbekistan. At that time his family was told if they
did not leave they would be killed all because they are Jewish. They quickly left all of their belongings including their home, car, and business. -Stephen Shooster
When Leon first came to me, asking me to help him write his biography I was shocked, but also honored. I was shocked that he would choose me, a 17-year-old student, to help write his biography. But, I was also honored that out of everyone he knew, and all the connections he had, he chose me to help. As Leon told the story of his liberation and his life afterwards, I was shocked at what he experienced compared to his life today. His past contained some of the most hateful things I have ever heard, yet here he is now, willing to tell me his story so that future generations can benefit and not repeat his past. After everything he had been through, Leon came to America, married, and started up a store. His life picked up, and he moved to South Florida, happy. He joined the South Florida Holocaust Association upon arrival to keep the message alive and tell everyone about the horrors of the Holocaust. After everything that transpired, he still came out with a winning grin on his face. In the years I have known him, he has shown such grace and kindness, I have never seen before. His generosity knows no limits, as he continues to learn and teach everyone he meets. I hope that for the rest of my life and one day my children’s lives that no person should die for who they are or for their religious beliefs. I would like to give thanks for everything that he has done for me, and everything that he has a helped me accomplish. It was because of him that I realized that doing good and making people happy is the best reward there is in life. Leon, thank you for everything you have given to me and the world.
