Are You Interested in an M.D. Who Treats The Person, Not The Disease?

the feeling of hunger, not with a growling in my stomach, but with a spacey feeling in my mind. Let’s face it: You are the cook, the cleaner, the breadwinner, the parent, the grocery shopper, the financial planner, the washer of the clothes, the driver, the tutor, the town-crier, the secretary, and the caregiver. Especially in the middle of our lives, we are all doing too much. Unless you are extraordinarily wealthy and have the ability to hire out to meet the needs of your family, you are playing the role of an entire community. Let’s face it, we are not mastering it all, and in fact, we often feel that we are failing in our own lives. Many of us are depleted or burnt out, just making it through a day. We need support that is specific to our own lives. When I first be - gan studying and applying simple Ayurvedic wisdom, it dawned on me how the modern Yoga teacher hustle was creating imbalance in me and how the ‘mind over matter’ approach I learned in the ashram was not sustainable, given the requirements of my work in the world. I learned and remembered something I knew deep in my bones and blood: that I had the power to heal, and that the journey of living and healing is deeply personal. It can not be spoon fed solely through any guru. I needed to address my own life and take hold of patterns I had developed in childhood, early adulthood, and even through Yoga that were no longer serving me and to begin a process of deep attentiveness to nourishment and to the relationships and substances in my own life and context. From the way we brush our teeth, dress, breathe, and eat, we can be focusing on nourishment and care for ourselves and our commu- nities. Not only can we, but we must. Nothing in nature thrives before it survives. Ayurveda provides this much needed guidance to sustain ourselves and motivation to go deep into simple daily shifts that cre- ate unforeseen transformations for longevity and peace. Learn to cook and to nourish. I’d like to believe we are all doing the best we can. I know I was be - fore learning Ayurveda and I still am as I continue to learn Ayurveda. The best reason to study anything is because it makes you come alive. Enhanced quality of life is the goal of Ayurveda. What could be greater than a science intended for that purpose?
