TRENDS (CONT) .
Shirin Yoku is the Japenses philosophy of forest bathing, which draws on the therapeutic powers of nature. Beyond tradition it has become a practical cornerstone of restorative health. Connect is a translation of this concept into design. Plants emit health enhancing compounds whilst the linear minimalism faciltates a feeling of revitalisation. In ideology, this trend promotes self-nuture.
Botanical Noir looks at the way in which architecture and nature can connect and the two become intrinsically linked. We spend 90%of our time indoors yet nature is hugely beneficial for our well-being. Amobile phone survey asked participants to take photos of the floor and rate their happiness. Data was collected and analysed. To conclude, the benefits of time spent outdoors in nature can be felt up to seven hours later. An Australian study that measured levels of brain chemicals flowing directly out of the brain found that people had higher serotonin levels on bright sunny days than on cloudy ones. (This was regardless of temperature). Outdoor classrooms is a concept that is slowly becomingmore apparent in schools. Outdoor learning can engage children with nature, they can learn about the environment and the changing seasons or have traditional lessons in the fresh air. More andmore spaces are becoming neither indoor nor outdoor, but something in between. Living walls, sheltered walkways, indoor forests, bi folding doors all blur the lines between indoor and outdoor space. Lots of foliage, indoor evergreen plants are essential. The palette ismade up of rich deep blues and dark greens, with a splash of blush pink and grey to balance the colours. Rich dark colours are regarded as grown up and serious.
