TRENDS (CONT) .
Society is growing increasingly environmentally and ethically conscious. What was once a trend for sustainability is now amovement – influencing the world of politics and ultimately changing businesses and the way we do business. We will become increasingly aware of how and where things aremade (and where things end up) paving the way for less waste and amuchmore sustainable future. Drastic weather conditions are alarming, the ice caps are alreadymelting at a rate initially predicted to happen in 2070. There are different approaches to bemore sustainable, one is highly innovative solutions, another is all about going back to basics, key words associated with this are; organic, raw, natural, unprocessed, earth, minerals, clay. More andmore people are turning towards veganism. The plant based lifestyle is credited for putting less pressure of the earth’s finite resources. The rise of the community shop reintroduces social encounters when buying daily groceries as they used to be when local shopping was commonplace. Often products soldmeet the needs of the community and are often conscientious, organic food, and self service products soaps, detergents, dried food etc, (bring your own container) to reduce packaging. A natural neutral palette with terracotta as a hero colour. Chalky finishes, natural, organicmaterials. Matt finishes and a desaturated palette. Two colours are layered with a darker one underneath and a lighter one on top.
This is an original thought process and is perhaps more of a reflection than something currently happening in society. Pigment is an original idea of Neville Knott, Crown Colour Consultant and is inspired by the concept of amaster’s studio. It consists of rich dark colours and it ismoody and atmospheric. It is a place of work, paint splattered, light and shadows are dramatic. Electricity is not yet invented, sumptuous fabrics re faded and worn. Bottles of coloured glass contain chemicals and resins for the paint and the scene is reminiscent of an apothecary. This is the inspiration, the trend is a reinvention. Metallic tones wrap a blanket around a space and with considered lighting can create a relaxing intimate space. One colour is used fromceiling to floor, monotone colours keep lines neat and planes unbroken.
