04. DESIGNBY FUNCTION The function of a space impacts on design decisions. Good design should optimise the function. In the following pages we have highlighted four sector areas: education, healthcare, corporate and home & hotel.
Each industry sector has its own unique design concern:
C. Corporate To reflect the core company values. D. Home & Hotel
A. Education To inspire learning. B. Healthcare To provide care for patients.
To provide comfortable, private retreats for living, eating and sleeping.
All facilities should promote health andwell-being.
When people are offered a choice, they become involved in the decorative process and they retain some control of the space. Because it can be difficult for people to reach an agreement, a restricted selection is a goodway forward: there are options but not toomany. When change takes place not everyone will be pleased with the outcome, but if themajority are in satisfied, it can be considered a successful result.
Themaintenance of a large scale project can be a considerable task, and while there are no rules or regulations, we have created some guidelines and pointers to consider. Designers and architectsmay have their own approach when selecting a colour palette andmay choose to do so in context with the individual project.
For technical reasons the colours shown will not exactly match the paint colour and do not represent a particular texture or finish.
