04.B HEALTHCARE
Children and adults feel much more comfortable and less intimidated in welcoming and friendly environments.
Hospitals are extensive; they provide a place of care, work and study for a wide variety of users. On a practical level, hospitals vary in shape, size and age. Hospitals contain a warren of corridors, numerous wards and specialist areas. Each facility should be assessed on an individual basis and when it was built, scale, layout, function, users and existing furnishings should all be taken in to consideration.
Hospitals witness intense emotional experiences from the joy of a new born, to the death of a loved one. Waiting however is how themajority of patients spend their time. Waiting can cause boredom. We get bored faster when there is little visual stimulation. Children and adults feel muchmore comfortable and less intimidated in welcoming and friendly environments. There is much evidence based research that emphasises how sunlight, nature and aesthetically pleasing spaces can reduce stress levels and aid recovery.
Hospitals operate 24hrs a day, 7 days a week.
