BGCSV Annual Fine Arts Exhibit Contest

The National Arts Contest is a premier opportunity for Clubs and BGCA to celebrate our Members' creative achievements. Recognition is a key element of BGCA’s approach to positive youth development. Members have been diligently creating art for our annual Fine Arts Exhibit Contest, submitting pieces in five categories: Applied, Digital, Literacy, Performance, and Visual Arts. All winning pieces from BGCSV will be forwarded to represent our organization at the BGCA National Arts Contest.

Monday through Thursday Members get creative in the Clubs by creating art pieces in various mediums, art concepts, and learning art culture through many famous artist or influencers. Members at the Clubs!

This semester, we continued to strengthen our commitment to STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics)by diving deeper into exciting topics! Members explored different forms of energy through hands-on experiments and investigated the causes of natural disasters like earthquakes and tornadoes. They concluded with demonstrations and built models to withstand these events, fostering curiosity and innovation throughout the process! INSPRING YOUTH THROUGH HANDS-ON, CREATIVE PROJECTS. STEM Core

On September 12, 2024, over a dozen volunteers from Texas Instruments came to our Alum Rock Clubhouse to lead a Snap Circuit activity with our Members. In addition to guiding and assisting youth with the circuit builds, they provided valuable insight into what it is like working in a STEM field, all while creating a fun and encouraging atmosphere! VOLUNTEERS FROM TEXAS INSTRUMENTS LEAD YOUTH THROUGH A SNAP CIRCUIT JOURNEY. Sparking Creativity

Thank you to all the volunteers from Texas Instruments for investing their time and expertise into our youth, and to High Tech High Heels for sponsoring the event!

LEGO Robotics

Our LEGO Robotics program has continued to sharpen our members’ troubleshooting and problem- solving abilities through hands-on challenges. One example from this semester included a thrilling robot race, where they modified their robots and code to boost performance!

In the Code & Create program, students are unleashing their creativity by learning to tell stories through various digital media using iPads. They explored exciting styles like pop art and stop motion animation. As the semester progresses, students will enhance their stop motion animations by adding special effects, including digital drawings, sound, and other creative elements! We are also thrilled to welcome two new Technology Program Specialists, Khris Torres and Jacob Barriga (pictured above), to our team to support this program expansion. @BGCLUBSV ON ALL PLATFORMS

Preparing for Youth of the Year 2025 On October 16th, 30 high school students filled the Levin-Davis Clubhouse for games, brainstorming, and a shared meal as they prepared for the Youth of the Year, a leadership readiness program by Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Participants will attend writing retreats, receive guidance in public speaking and speech writing, and practice mock interviews with BGCSV partners. Students from five clubhouses will write three essays, deliver a three-minute speech, and respond to questions from judges. The final three students will be chosen in January, with the Youth of the Year and two runners-up announced at the gala on February 7th, 2025!

Future Grads

Launched in 2023, BGCSV Future Grads supports students at Morgan Hill and Milpitas high schools on their path to college graduation. Participants receive counseling for college applications and financial aid while developing essential social-emotional skills, such as seeking help and building support networks. The program follows a cohort model, starting the summer before 10th grade and continuing through college and beyond. This year, the Future Grads staff hosted Summer Academy, a week-long experience at Gavilan College and Service Now, aimed at highlighting the value of a college education and building life skills. We’re excited to plan for Summer Academy 2025 and welcome new students!
