JOB TITLE:

Managing Director

Company Background Heraeus Electro-Nite has been a leading name in molten metal measurement technology since the 1950s. Based in Chesterfield, the company develops and manufactures advanced measurement systems used to analyse molten metal during the steel-making process. These technologies enable steel producers to accurately control temperature and chemistry, improving safety, efficiency and the quality of steel production. These pioneering innovations – which include the patented CasTemp and CoreTemp measurement systems – have become major UK exports, widely used across the global steel industry.

What inspired Heraeus Electro-Nite (UK) to apply for a King’s Award? Applying for the King’s Award for Innovation felt like a natural next step following our earlier success in 2024 when Heraeus Electro-Nite UK received a King’s Award for Enterprise for International Trade. To succeed in the UK steel industry, you must be at the top of your game. I wanted to use the Award process to challenge ourselves even further.

We were fortunate to receive excellent guidance from the Derbyshire King’s Award office. Marvin Cooke OBE kindly took the time to read our nomination and provide constructive feedback. The Lord Lieutenant’s office is an excellent place to seek support and the Derbyshire team were extremely helpful throughout the process. We also received valuable input from William Beckett OBE, former Chair of the South Yorkshire Trade Forum. His advice and perspective were invaluable.

How did you prepare for your submission?

How did you find the application process?

We reviewed previous winners and studied the application criteria carefully. It quickly became clear that the judges are looking not only for innovation but also clear evidence of real-world impact. I would strongly recommend speaking to people who have experience of the process as their insights can make a real difference.

The process is straightforward and completed entirely online. It costs nothing to apply and the system allows you to save your progress and return to the application at any stage, which makes it easy to refine your submission over time rather than completing it in one go.
