is a tremendous achievement; to receive this recognition for a second time reflects a continued commitment to original thinking, technical innovation, and practical industrial solutions.
CPS is a small specialist business, and the technologies behind these awards were independently developed and patented through years of hands-on research, development, and application experience. This recognition demonstrates that meaningful innovation does not necessarily require large laboratories or extensive research teams, but can also come from focused expertise, persistence, and a deep understanding of industry challenges. C-Kore Systems, based in Escrick, York, has been honoured with The King’s Award for Enterprise – Innovation 2026, recognising the company’s outstanding work in the field of optical fibre testing of subsea systems. This achievement marks C-Kore’s fourth award in just over seven years, having already received the Queen’s Award for Enterprise – Innovation in 2019, The Queen’s Award for Enterprise – International Trade in 2021, and The King’s Award for Enterprise – International Trade in 2024. C-Kore is the global leader for testing subsea umbilicals and cables, using automated test equipment in water depths up to 3,000 metres. In 2020, C-Kore started the design of a Subsea Optical Time Domain Reflectometer unit (SOTDR) to measure optical fibres subsea, launching its first prototype in 2022. As with its other patented products, the tool is fully automated, making a once- complex operation of taking OTDR measurements a now simple process, not requiring any specialised personnel to accompany the units offshore. Tim Overfield, founder and chairman of C-Kore commented: “Receiving The King’s Award for Enterprise for the fourth time with C-Kore is an extraordinary honour. This recognition reflects the dedication of our entire team and our commitment to pushing boundaries in the UK and globally. C-Kore Systems Ltd
Innovation has always been at the heart of our company, and this award reinforces the impact our work is having across the industry today.” The award highlights the importance of innovation within the UK’s businesses. C-Kore’s customers operate in one of the most severe physical environments on the planet, where both staff and equipment are exposed to harsh conditions. Anything that makes their job easier, quicker, more reliable and safer is welcomed. C-Kore’s SOTDR has been widely adopted by customers worldwide to modernise their subsea testing operations, demonstrating strong market traction and proven value. As an organisation, C-Kore is extremely proud of its achievements and is looking forward to continuing to serve the global subsea industry in the years to come.
