New Lawyers Division

A Busy Fall By Matt Sahak

Fall is a busy season for CAOC’s New Lawyers Division (“NLD”). We are bringing members together for a baseball game and an October reception. Do not miss our hands-on trial program and public service event at CAOC’s Annual Convention in November. If you have been looking for a way to get involved, there are several opportunities coming up. Membership Chair, Gary Partamian, led our final membership phone drive of the year on August 13. NLD volunteers reached out to attorneys who had contributed to CAOC’s fight against the Uber initiative but had not joined the organization. At our September board meeting, Gary reported that CAOC had reached 3,800+ members. Thank you to everyone who helped make those calls and welcome more attorneys into the CAOC community. We also hosted our annual Giants versus Dodgers outing in San Francisco on September 26. With that said, the Dodgers won’t be the only ones playing in October. On October 22, we will gather at The Bungalow in Santa Monica from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. for the NLD fall reception. It is a chance to catch up with colleagues and meet attorneys from across the plaintiffs’ bar.

We are also getting ready for the CAOC Annual Convention in San Francisco, November 12–15. On Thursday, November 12, NLD members will take part in a public service event. All are welcome to help assemble winter care kits for local people in need. Picture a factory assembly but with alcohol. It is a great opportunity to see old friends, meet new ones, and establish connections you can reinforce for the rest of the conference. On Friday, November 13, the NLD and CAOC’s Legal Staff Support Group will present a combined mock trial program from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. The program will cover voir dire, opening statements, and closing arguments. Education Chair Vicki Gasparyan is looking for volunteers to play roles. Please reach out to Vicki if you would like to participate, and be sure to stop by to support the program. Friday also brings a student reception where NLD members can welcome law students into the CAOC community. Then comes the event the entire convention has been building toward: the NLD party at the Tonga Room. We promise nobody cares how you dance, only that you are doing it. Come for the party, stay for the chance to tell everyone you were there. If you would like to share anything for a future newsletter, please reach out. For items to promote on NLD social media, contact Public Relations Chair Mariah Ogden. And if you are an attorney in your first ten years of practice, we invite you to join the NLD and take part in the months ahead.

Matt Sahak is a Senior Associate at Kabateck LLP with experience providing litigation support to the firm’s robust trial team. He is the 2026 NLD Public Relations Chair. ms@KBKlawyers.com
