HMRC: updated guidance Published: 14 July 2023 Emailed: 19 July 2023
HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has now updated the GOV.UK guidance.
Below are some of the key updates for this week:
• Charities: detailed guidance notes on how the tax system operates - chapter 3.13.2 has been updated to explain the waiving of a refund or loan repayment by an individual can be considered a donation if certain conditions are met • How to register and use the apprenticeship service as an employer - the way users sign in to their apprenticeship service account has changed. The 'Before setting up your apprenticeship service account' section has been updated to reflect this
• Claim back Income Tax when you've stopped working - how to claim a refund in the current tax year if you are not getting taxable benefits or a pension from your employer and you've not started a new job (P50)
• Find payroll software that is recognised by HMRC - the page has been updated with one addition
• Abolishing the pensions lifetime allowance - a tax information and impact note about the abolition of the lifetime allowance for pensions has been added
• Pensions tax relief — amendments to the relief at source legislation - necessary changes to the legislative framework. Back to contents
HMRC's annual report 2022/23 Published: 18 July 2023 Emailed: 19 July 2023
HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has now published ‘ HMRC annual report and accounts: 2022 to 2023 ’ and ‘ HMRC's annual report and accounts 2022 to 2023: performance overview ’.
It has been reported that HMRC has generated £814 billion in total tax revenues in 2022/23 – an 11.3% increase on the previous year. In addition HMRC has protected £34 billion through compliance work that would otherwise have been lost to the Exchequer through non-compliance. It costs HMRC only half a penny to collect every pound of tax revenue.
