Reminder: keep your tax records up to date Published: 9 October 2023 Emailed: 11 October 2023

You must notify HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) if your circumstances change. If you don’t you could still incur fines and penalties after your business has stopped trading.

HMRC requires notification of changes to your personal or business circumstances. This is so your tax records remain up to date and HMRC can make sure you get the right information about your tax affairs.

If your name, address or personal details have changed, you need to tell HMRC by clicking the link, here. If your business address or details have changed, for example you may no longer be self-employed or your business may have closed, you need to tell HMRC, here.

You can also notify HMRC, and check your details are correct, on the HMRC app by opening a personal tax account. The app is downloadable on iOS or Android and a short video for guidance is available to watch.

You also need to tell HMRC about certain income changes, relationship or family changes, and if you are planning to leave the UK. For more information visit gov.uk.

Apprenticeship levy – we want to hear from you Published: 12 October 2023 Emailed: 18 October 2023

HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) wants to speak to you regarding the apprenticeship levy.

The apprenticeship levy was introduced in 2017 and HMRC would now like to understand how public sector organisations manage the payment and allowances related to the apprenticeship levy.

We are calling all CIPP members, dealing with payment or allowance of apprenticeship levy in the following four public bodies groups: • local authorities • NHS • political parties, trade unions & trade associations • government departments & associated bodies. HMRC will be inviting you to participate in a telephone interview to discuss your experiences of managing the apprenticeship levy in your organisation. The interview will last up to a maximum of 45 minutes. You have the right to refuse to answer any questions you do not feel comfortable with. However, the information you provide will remain strictly confidential and would help HMRC understand how improvement can be made to guidance, processes, and support offered.

Place your interest today by emailing the policy team on policy@cipp.org.uk, stating the sector you are from.

All interviews need to be conducted by Thursday 26th October 2023.
