CIPP Payroll: need to know - 2023-24

The Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals

News On Line

These contributions are vital to ensure the results are representative of the payroll industry. Each year, topical questions are included in the survey. This year, fast-paced change and the role payroll plays in employee financial well-being have been explored. For the 2023 report, the policy team performed a data cleanse to align the dates presented in the report. In previous years, the date was represented as a tax year format, i.e., 2012/13, and in others it was represented as the year it was published i.e., 2008. For consistency, the dates have been amended to represent the year the data was gathered, rather than the tax year it was obtained in. For the 2023 report, the data was gathered between February and March 2023, and we received a 71% increase in responses compared to 2022. The policy team are thrilled to see so many payroll professionals involved in this key piece of research.

In 2023, we have updated the look and feel of the report, to ensure we’re communicating crucial information in the most effective way. We hope you enjoy this year’s report.

Payroll Giving factsheet Published: 10 August 2023 Emailed: 16 August 2023

CIPP members can now access the new Payroll Giving factsheet. This factsheet and others are available from our policy hub. Payroll Giving (sometimes known as Give as You Earn) is an easy and tax-efficient way of making regular donations to your favourite charities straight from your pay.

The CIPP is part of the Accessible Payroll Giving project, which is a cross-sector and cross-stakeholder initiative, to build a business case that could be taken to the government to make having a Payroll Giving scheme more mandatory for companies over certain size. Organisations involved in the project group are:

• Charities: Barnardo’s, Macmillan, Together for Animals, Dog’s Trust, Cancer Research UK • Payroll Giving agencies: Charities Aid Foundation, Charitable Giving, Charities Trust, PayCaptain, GivingForce Foundation • Professional Fundraising Organisations: Hands on Payroll Giving, StC Payroll Giving, GoodPAYE • Professional bodies: Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals (CIPP), Chartered Institute of Fundraising (CIoF).

Factsheets are a fantastic membership benefit; covering many topics in easy-to-understand terms. They can be used to develop processes, refresh understanding or to train and develop new starters. If members have queries more detailed than covered in the factsheets, the advisory service is available to assist.
