National Living Wage to increase from April 2024 Published: 2 October 2023 Emailed: 4 October 2023

The Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak and the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Jeremy Hunt, announce a wage boost for over two million working people. The National Living Wage (NLW) is set to increase to at least £11 an hour from April 2024.

At the moment the government is waiting for the Low Pay Commission (LPC) to confirm its recommendation for next year. Currently the NLW sits at £10.42 and is the minimum rate applicable for aged 23 and over. But the Prime Minister has confirmed that whatever the LPC recommends, the NLW next year will increase to at least £11 an hour.

The Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, said:

‘‘For a full -time worker on the National Living Wage this boost is worth over £1,000 more next year. It'll mean that the wages of the lowest paid people in society are over £9,000 a year higher than they were in 2010.

If you work hard, a Conservative government will always have your back.’’
