WEST VIRGINIA WONDER WOMEN

ARTIST OF THE EARTH EMAY, DRYFORK Singer and songwriter, teacher, multidisciplinary artist, event director at Healthberry Farm

AN ARTIST AT HEART “I love taking intimate moments of songwriting and music practice and sharing them publicly with people. It’s just one of the greatest joys of my life. I also teach, because I’ve had such wonderful and formative experiences with people that have shared their love of music with me. My passion is definitely showing people how they can take their work into the world.” HOW SHE ROCKS “My band is called The Moon My Twin. It’s actually a reference to the Earth. It’s this idea that the moon and the Earth are twins—twin planets. Saying, ‘The moon my twin,’ that’s really saying these are songs from the Earth. For me, music has been this absolutely vital way to process my own emotions, but it also has become a way to connect with other people. This is the first time I’ve really been in a band that rocks the way I want it to so, creatively, the band is really exciting.” PURE HAPPINESS “I’ve been doing a lot of writing, so I’m starting to publish poems again and explore language arts in a way that I haven’t done in a long time. I’m able to make my art, share, teach, and be a part of a wonderful community. West Virginia is such a dynamic place. No one can really put their finger on it. I really do think the soul and spirit of this place is so incredible, and I’ve just really found my home here.”MM
