WEST VIRGINIA WONDER WOMEN

THE PAINTER ROSALIE HAIZLETT, WHEELING An artist who combines her love of illustrating and her love of the Mountain State and the first recipient of the Tamarack Foundation for the Arts Emerging Artist Fellowship INSPIRATION STRIKES “I’ve been really motivated to find the beauty that is here and amplify that through my art. In the Appalachian Mountains, everything is very cozy and forested and it’s hard to make a landscape that captures everything, so I’m really drawn to the little details in the nature that’s here. I really like to show little things like snails and salamanders and endangered species that people don’t really know about.” JUDGE THIS BOOK BY ITS COVER “This book, Watercolor in Nature , captures what happens in my in-person workshops, my online workshops, where I encourage people to be more aware of their surroundings and observe their surroundings and then create watercolor paintings based on them. So there are 20 different projects featuring different plants and animals you can find in the woods.” WHY SHE PAINTS “My mission as an artist—half of it—is to showcase what I’m seeing in nature through my own work, and the other half is helping other people create things based on what they see outside in an attempt to encourage mindfulness.” AB
