TARP (OPTIONAL)

TARP OPERATION (CABLE TARP): Some trailers are equipped with an electrically operated tarp system. The tarp when open is stored at the front of the trailer. The electrical rocker switch for the tarp is located in the cab. The tarp motor will stop its operation only when the switch is released and returned to the center neutral position. Power for the tarp is supplied from the tractor battery through the two pin connection at the front of the trailer. This is a heavy gauge power source and like all wiring must be in proper repair. This circuit also includes a 50 amp breaker.

POWER SUPPLY PLUG (AT NOSE OF TRAILER)

The tarp is not a walkway and will not support weight. Do not attempt to walk or otherwise traverse the tarp. Traveling with the tarp in the OPEN position will cause premature tarp wear. The tarp must be open when loading and unloading the trailer. DO NOT hold the tarp switch at the IN or OUT position after the tarp has reached either its full retraction or its full extension. Release the switch so it can return to the neutral position when the tarp comes to a stop at either end of the trailer. The breaker for the electric motor will trip or the electric motor could burn out if the motor is not shut-off after its motion has stopped. Some tarps are mechanically operated as opposed to electrically. This typically consists of a hand crank, sprocket, and chain drive. Be aware that the tarp and tarp components are at the extreme width and height of the trailer and can be easily damaged. Always maintain a tarp in proper working order. When the tarp is operational, the tarp, cables, chains, shafts, and pulleys are in motion. Keep body parts, clothing, and anything that can get caught, clear of all moving parts associated with the tarp and mechanism.
