To reduce the cost to produce items, you would need to:
a. Try to put more than 1 job on a page and try to print a number of jobs at the same time (this will save time and also money because an already hot press doesn’t consume as much electricity as it does heating up). b. Increase the volumes that you purchase – this will lower your freight cost and you may even get a discount on the products you are purchasing. A pack of 100 papers is far cheaper than a pack of 10 for example. c. Improve your skills at producing the item, thus reducing your amount of wastage. d. Hire unskilled labor and teach them the skills to produce the item for you (thus reducing your wage costs). e. If you have made an error printing shirts there is a solution which you can buy to remove the print (as long as it’s not a sublimation print) so you can re-use the shirt. f. In the case of products you can’t take the print off, you can often sell them at a reduced price to staff or even to your customer. g. Don’t waste your money on the cheapest item and then have to spend money to refund or replace the item when the customer complains. h. Always get the customer to sign off a proof (sample of the item). If the customer is far away an emailed photo will have to do as long as you keep their reply approving it. i. Learn how to use the graphic program you are using so that you can do the work in the least time possible. j. There are certain jobs that you can make more money outsourcing the printing and get a better finished product – If you don’t have a DTF printer and you need to print on dark / black shirts, there is a company (Epic Imports) next to our Joburg offices who can do the prints for you. Why DTF ? It’s cheaper than almost any process you can do without a DTF (for black and dark fabric specifically). k. Keep some stock on hand of the most popular items so you’re not paying courier fees or wasting petrol for a few items.
