Tips for online marketing and sales: (i)
You will get a better response if you post an interactive question or a photo or video of something you’ve done on social media instead of just advertising your products. People turn to social media to connect with others not to read endless ads. So for example if you ask something like “I need to print this logo on a shirt, should I go for a black shirt or a white shirt” or “I am looking for a personalised tea cup, who sells them” you will get a better response than just a straight up advert. (ii) Selling sets of items is more profitable than just single items. Think of things that can go together and offer them as a set. (iii) How you get the item to the customer is vitally important. You will have to open an account with a courier. There are many couriers that offer a standard rate for all items up to a certain weight specifically for online seller. You must use one of them and charge a standard rate because trying to work out the charge per item is a massive waste of time. (iv) DO NOT use the post office. They are proven to be unreliable at delivering anything other than bills. (v) You will need to package the items in a way that they look good for the customer and also protect the item you are sending. You can buy standard size boxes of varying sizes or you can just buy sheets of cardboard and use a craft creasing tool and a craft knife to make your own boxes. The creasing tool compacts the cardboard so that you can fold it without it looking messy. (vi) You will also need something to protect the item in the box (especially if it’s easily breakable). You can use bubble plastic, aerothene, polystyrene chips and so on – These as well as packaging tape you should buy from a packaging supplier – don’t buy these retail as the prices are vastly lower buying from a packaging supplier. (vii) You should contact your insurance company and request “goods-in-transit insurance” rather than using the insurance of the courier company. Why ? Well goods-in-transit insurance covers you up to whatever value you determine (work out what your most expensive item is going to be and get insurance for that amount) and works out cheaper and pays out quicker than the insurance the courier company offers. The courier company has the same goods-in-transit insurance in place with their insurer and makes a profit on the insurance they offer you. (viii) The internet is rife with fraudsters out to get you so make sure you get money up front before doing any jobs and be very suspicious of anyone wanting thousands of a particular item.
