What do you do if your products are NOT selling ? The 1 st thing everyone wants to do when a product is not selling, is to drop the price, believing that a lower price will result in increased sales. Although a reduced price can sometimes lead to an increase in sales, this is NOT always the case. What you need to do is find out from your market, why they are not purchasing a particular product. Put yourself in their shoes and see whether you would buy the product. Reasons that a product may not be selling can be: The customer isn’t clear on what makes your product different / better than your competitor’s product – this is usually evident when most customers are asking for prints which do not fully exploit the technology you have at your fingertips – for example when customers send a terrible quality picture and expect a terrible result – just a little work in a graphics software or even an AI upscaler can make your print look like a million bucks compared to your competitors. The way you are producing the final product may need just a little extra “oomph” to get it to sell (for example you may be making T-shirts with a square picture when something more “arty” is called for etc.), or increasing the saturation of the image to make it stand out. The customer may not be aware of what you do exactly. Your marketing approach will need some work and fine-tuning. If you’ve done sales pitches, call those people and find out why they didn’t buy from you. When you do this, explain to them that you want to improve your product and service, and that this info can help you achieve this. If you are confrontational when trying to find out why they didn’t buy from you, you’re not going to find out the truth. You may find that the product you’re trying to sell isn’t “trendy” for a specific age group. Different age groups want different products. You cannot market all items to all age groups. Baby products for instance are great for new parents but a waste of time advertising to middle aged people. Kids buy button badges, older people don’t etc. If you’re working from a stall or a shop, then take a critical look at your shop display and signage. Stand a little distance away from the entrance and examine the people walking past your shop. See whether they even notice your shop. If they don’t notice your shop at all then you need to change something drastically. The addition of a light-box with an advertising message or even a flashing light may make all the difference.
