King's Business - 1967-02

Continued from page 16 might be foreign to their way of thinking it did have an influence, especially when we remembered their people and their countries. Some have kept in touch with us through the many years since. How thankful we were for the privilege of being “foreign” mis sionaries right here at home! At the end of the war these men went home to help shape the poli cies of their own lands—policies that would affect our own coun try and also missionaries going out from here. We have won dered if the churches and mis sions have been overlooking the great number of military person nel and students who come from overseas to train here. A Chris tian Colonel of the Chinese Air Force is quoted as saying: “Why is that you Americans will spend thousands of dollars to send a missionary overseas, but com pletely ignore the great numbers of military men who are brought here to train in the States ? They come with open minds, but go home disappointed in what they had expected to find in a Chris tian nation.” When the war ended in 1945 we felt lost, after having had so many guests coming and going. About that time we were intro duced to the work o f the Inter- Varsity Christian Fellowship, a natural follow-up. As we’ve be come more and more involved in this ministry, we are convinced that this foreign mission field here at home is one o f the great est opportunities in the world. We don’t need any special prep aration; if we did, most o f us couldn’t do it. What is needed is a real concern, a real love. Open hearts first, then open homes — the least used of all. If you have to stay at home but would like to travel all around the world, we earnestly suggest that you invite the military per sonnel and students from over seas into your homes. Your re ward will be great.

WHERE CAN A JEW FIND CHRIST? On street corners, in homes, in shops, and in our witnessing cen ters, our workers faith fully proclaim the story of redemption accord ing to Moses and the prophets, and the gos pel message from the New Testament, and Jews are finding the Saviour. A Jewish boy accepted a tract, "Isaiah's Por trait of Messiah" and immediately asked, "Can you tell me more about this?" There on a street corner in Chicago a 12 year old boy listened intently to the skillful presentation of the Scriptures and ac cepted Jesus Christ as his Messiah and Sav iour. A middle-aged Jew ess, after hearing the gospel for several years at Miami Beach called and said, "I am terribly distressed. Please come over. I must find the Lord today."
