2018 ARTIST STATEMENT
The year 2018 marked a significant milestone in the artistic journey of my work. The year was filled with travel, exploration, and artistic growth. My travels took me to diverse locations: Pai, Thailand; Kathmandu, Nepal; Edinburgh, Scotland; Boulder, Colorado; Marquette, Mich- igan; and Gainesville, Florida, all this while maintaining a full-time job! My most exotic trip was to Kathmandu, Nepal, and Bhaktapur’s neighboring world heritage site with my son, Jason. We immersed ourselves in the ancient city and its temples with the aid of our local guide, Dil Bahadur Chhetri. Despite his short stature, Dil was a youthful man of great presence - a blend of local knowledge, entrepre- neurial spirit, and global awareness. Notably, he climbed Mt. Everest, only a few miles from our location. Tragically, he would not survive the impending global pandemic. Dil died of Covid in 2022. My art evolved alongside my worldview. I no- ticed my live drawings of musicians saw signifi- cant improvement, some of which transformed into major oil paintings.
