Frank and d’Beans - Oil on canvas, 6.5 feet x 5.5 feet, with a custom frame, is a masterwork that represents the pinnacle of my art of music, honed over years of practice. This painting took a full year to complete. Dattatreya Temple at Night - This is a digital painting inspired by my favorite temple in Bhak- tapur, Nepal. Built from a single tree in 1470 as a resting place for Shiva ascetics monks and later modified to honor Dattatreya, the temple’s archi- tecture and symbolism are captivating. A conch shell monument stands on a pillar in the high mountains. This place is 540 miles from the ocean through rugged mountains. I am mesmerized by this temple. It is dedicated to the Hindu God Dattatreya, a composite of three of Hindu’s primary Gods: Brahma, Vishnu, and Shi- va. It is depicted as a single body with three heads.
My fascination with Hinduism’s pantheon of Gods opened many new artistic possibilities. It also challenged my ideas of Judaism. A key ele- ment of Judaism is not to worship idols, especial- ly golden calves. I saw a giant golden calf in one of the temples in Kathmandu. It was huge. It was housed in a building that I was not allowed to enter. I guess these were the sculptures we were warned about growing up.
