COLOR THEORY
Color Theory by Stephen Shooster is an exper- imental work that explores the relationship be- tween color and perception. The painting is ren- dered in a series of overlapping shapes that are all supposed to be the same tone. The idea is that when the saturation of the work is turned down, the shapes disappear, creating the illusion of a single, solid color.
The painting is a visual representation of the way that the rods and cones in our eyes work. The rods are responsible for detecting motion and low-light levels, while the cones are responsible for detecting color.
