Welcome to Volume II of the Shoosty Catalogue Raisonné , a comprehensive collection of the artis- tic works of Stephen Shooster. This volume is the continuation of the 1st volume which takes you from 1958 to 2017, a period of 59 years. The first volume is similar in size to this one, yet, it only took 3 years, so you can infer the volume of com- pleted work has substantially increased. The first book goes from crayon drawings, through col- lege, marriage, four kids, and more. It represents the growing up and working years. This volume follows the familiar charts of all knowledge on this planet as growing exponentially. It is fueled by the advent of computing and associated mod- ern devices. Visual art is at the forefront of tech- nology and Shooster wastes no time in exploring the possibilities. Besides the technological inno- vation, the biggest change in this second volume is his retirement in 2019, giving him full time to create art. Shooster is also a prolific writer. In 2011, he pub- lished his first book called, The Horse Adjutant , the story of a Nazi Holocaust survivor. This book taught him the discipline of writing and the soft- ware to produce books. Since then, he has pro- duced over 11 books. Shooster signs his work Shoosty to separate his business from his art. All of the works you will see in this volume are signed by Shoosty. Shoosty’s approach to art is two-fold: rapid con- ceptualization followed by meticulous crafts- manship. His inspirations are drawn from his surroundings and inner worlds, encompassing everything from nature to myth, and art history to literature. Most of all it is the result of explora- tion. He constantly studies new styles of art and mimics them until he can invent new work based on what he discovers. He shows an insatiable desire to explore new compositions, both quick sketches and long-term projects that sometimes take years to complete.
