The magician returns and asks, “What time is it?” To which question the leader responds with a sentence which contains the answer, “Well, Concentrate, it’ll come to you.” “ Three O’clock was chosen,” says the magician. How it is Done: Each of the first twelve letters of the alphabet repre­ sents an hour: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 A B C D E F G H I J K L The letter beginning the second word of the leader’s answer is to represent the hour decided upon. ( “ C” is the example.) An exact hour must always be used. 3. M AG IC CITIES What Happens: The leader asks his assistant to leave the group while the name of a certain city is selected. To illustrate, let’s use Bethlehem for the example. The assistant returns and the leader asks, “ Is it Chicago?” “No.” “ Is it Berlin?” “No.” “ Is it New York?” “No.” “ Is it Bethlehem?” “Yes,” the assistant finally answers. How it’s Done: The mystery city is the one mentioned immediately after a double word city such as New York, Los Angeles, San Diego, etc. It is always necessary for the leader to have a wide awake assistant for this type of activity. General clues can be given to the group as they try to guess how the “Magical” tricks are per­ formed. Excitement and suspense builds up as some in the group figures out the clues, participating as assist­ ants and “magicians.”

“magic” games are challenging and e n t e r ­ taining to al­ most any age g r o u p . T h e y c a n add f u n and excitement to all types of p a r t i e s and g a t h e r i n g s . Here are a few suggestions.

What Happens: The leader states that his assistant is able to read signs on the floor made with a stick, and he agrees to send him out of the room while the group decides upon a word. How it is Done: The leader spells out the word in code as follows: One tap represents the vowel “ A,” two “ E,” three “ I,” four “ O,” and five “U.” The consonants are the first letters of the first words of each sentence the leader says when the assistant returns. For instance, to spell out “ cat” the leader, while making all sorts of mys­ terious markings on the floor, will say, “ Can you get this word?” Then he will tap once for the letter “ A.” Fin­ ally, he’ll say, “ Think you have it?” The assistant will easily figure out the secret word, “ CAT.” 2.
