Northampton Saints may go into today’s semi-final showdown against Exeter as underdogs, but lock Courtney Lawes insists his side can shock the Chiefs on their own patch. The men in Black, Green and Gold travel to Sandy Park for the second time in as many weeks, after they qualified for the knockout stages of the Gallagher Premiership despite a 40-21 defeat to top-of-the- table Exeter. Piers Francis, Rory Hutchinson and Cobus Reinach all scored tries in a pulsating first half in the Westcountry, but with the scores level at half-time, it was the Chiefs who pulled away after the break with some relentless phase play. Lawes admits Northampton’s ill-discipline was the difference in the second 40, but is adamant that Saints have more than enough firepower to upset the apple cart when they lock horns with Rob Baxter’s side this afternoon. “There’s certainly plenty we can take from the game that makes us think we can turn this result around next week,” he said. “During the first half we went really well but were just a bit ill-disciplined which kept them in it, and then in the second half we lost the error battle which just swung the tide in their favour. “We’re thrilled to make it through as it would be a really gutting result for us if that was the last
