I have been working in the counseling field for over 25 years. I don't take life too seriously and don’t think anyone else should either. I try to find the humor in life’s little setbacks by working with girls and women on increasing their confidence and awareness of their individual strengths in the major pillars of life - health/fitness, relationships, work/school, and leisure. I was strolling through life, not paying attention to the little signs my body was trying to tell me. It took a diagnosis of anxiety for

me to realize that things weren’t going as great as I was pretending them to be. I was embarrassed, as many women are about letting their weakness show through their pretty little outfit. How could I let anyone know that I was experiencing anxiety, stress, and hormonal imbalances, as a practicing counselor? Have you been there? Have you been dealing with a hiccup in your life and aren’t courageous enough to share it with others? Anxiety propelled me to start showing up,

getting out of my comfort zone, and trying new things that I swore I would never do. Acupuncture, meditation, yoga, affirmations, reiki, aromatherapy, journaling, nutritional supplements, gratitude journal...and the list goes on. Taking the advice that I had been joyfully providing to girls and women about the importance of being brave and courageous. I started screaming it from the rooftops to anyone that would listen about my anxiety and hormonal issues. Once I started being vulnerable, women flocked to me like a tribe of animals protecting their cub by sharing their own personal struggles. I decided right then that I wanted to be a sounding board for girls and women, providing them a safe, comfortable, non-judgmental space where girls and women could share their most personal, sometimes even funny stories.

I am passionate about assisting girls and women find solutions while encouraging them to stay in the now and not worry or dwell on the past or future. I help them be brave and shed the layers, allowing their true authentic self to shine through. How many other girls and women are silently struggling with the same feelings? We all know these women. They are hiding behind their dark sunglasses or pretending that everything is fine while they prance around in their cute Lululemon leggings. I use enthusiasm, positivity, accountability, and an untamed sense of humor. I find absolute joy in working with girls and women when they notice the amazing pivot that has taken place in their minds and bodies.

Kindness Pays Forward B Y MAT T Z I NMAN This story occurred nearly 30 years ago and resonates at least as strongly to this day. This act of kindness affected me profoundly as well as inspired me to pay it forward. Patrick J. Jackson, Jr. was an industry icon who I had the honor of meeting at my very first professional conference. I must pay respect to the fact that Pat delivered on his reputation. I'm not sure if he was the keynote speaker, but I easily recall

that his presentation was well-attended with everyone fully engaged and happy to hear Pat at his best. Afterward was the typical “meet and greet” session in which attendees lined up, introduced themselves to the speaker, and posed follow-up questions. I do not remember what it was I had in mind to ask Mr. Jackson or even my reasons why. What I do recall is standing in line with 3 or 4 people ahead of me while trying to collect my thoughts. My heart was racing. Actually, I distinctly remember it being more like thumping almost loud enough for others to hear it. That feeling of having ones’ friendly neighborhood police vehicle escort you to the side of the road comes to mind.

I had held a perception that I was less important, whereas Pat appreciated me as someone eager to speak with him. He possessed a healthy ego to show equal respect along with humility and humbleness to emphasize his belief that we are no more important than any other person. Even more impactful is that he gave me the gift of being able to do the same for others whenever they express thinking less of themselves. Of course, it’s also fulfilling for me to make the same difference for others.

I’m not sure I’d ever been so nervous and the feeling completely took me by surprise. Of course, that didn’t help matters. It seemed more pronounced as I got closer to the front of the line as each person finished speaking with him. I was wrestling with self-doubts and the fears that he’d think less of me. On the outside, I would like to think that I maintained a certain degree of poise and professionalism. However, I must have acted timidly in mentioning something to Mr. Jackson about the importance of the time he was about to take to speak with me. At that very moment, Pat went to one of his favorite “go-to” impact lines. With a certain mentor-like tone, he asked, “Well, isn’t this your time too?” I may have stuttered briefly but I acknowledged that I understood this to be both his and my time. He replied, “Well if this is both our time, I don’t see why my time is any more important than yours. Now, what’s your question?” I’ll always remember how good that made me feel and how my nervousness suddenly just washed away. His act of kindness changed my life right then and there.

CURATING GENUINE & MEANINGFUL CONNECTIONS

I guess you could say that I came to be a connector fairly early in life. As a former athlete, I was the captain of both my high school and college track and field teams. My coaches believed in my ability to lead and unite others even before I did. It was after my formal education that I really began to believe in myself as someone who could curate genuine and meaningful connections with others. When I began my journey in connecting, I heard extensively of the word “networking” over and over again. At that time that word meant that I had to attend as many networking mixers and events to meet people and hand out my business card. From the very beginning, the experience felt very cold and impersonal. Now, in these times of Covid-19, I’m sure many people would love to have an in-person networking event to converse and enjoy the company of others. I don’t disagree with the premise of connecting with others in person because surely we all need that especially now.

However, I contend that it is HOW we converse not only in person but also virtually that creates the secret sauce of connection. It is not enough to just spend time with others. To effectively curate genuine and meaningful connections I’ve learned that it rarely has to do with just meeting and talking about business.

In fact, it almost always has nothing to do with business and everything to do with meeting the person’s basic needs for conversation. I call it the “No Agenda, Human-Centered” Approach to curating genuine and meaningful connections.

Doing this regularly over time provides a really powerful and meaningful bond of trust between you and the people you connect with.

Tell People Good Things :

Let’s look at this approach in three steps:

Lastly, tell people they are good and worth your time regularly. Unfortunately, many people are not told that they are good or worthy on a regular basis. Be open, kind, and grateful for spending time with others. Relaying this verbally is a powerful reminder of why creating connections are so important. Connecting fulfills a very innate need to be desired and cared for by others. Filling someone’s emotional bucket with good messages and words in your meetings is like fuel. It propels the person to not only want to spend more time with you, but they will also see you as the go-to person for various opportunities to help and be there for them in their lives. If you focus on this approach, you will see a natural pull towards people wanting to connect to you. You will also create a network that is based on genuine and meaningful relationships. If you can do this then you will always have a steady source of reliable, caring, and productive people in your life.

Meet the Person’s Basic Needs:

This involves making the person you are connecting with feel safe, comfortable, relaxed, and open to discussing who they are as a person. Be approachable by asking “how” based questions that have nothing to do with business. Some example questions are “How do you normally go about meeting others to connect?” or “How has your experience been with networking and building relationships?” You could even use the “tell me” approach. This elicits a person to provide a very direct and descriptive answer. An example is “Tell me about a good and bad networking experience that you have had recently.” All of these approaches help to facilitate a descriptive and connective conversation that naturally leads to a deeper connection and deeper conversation.

Nurture Your Network:

Once you have begun to meet people regularly in your networking adventures, you have to consistently nurture your network. That means checking back in regularly with the people you meet to create consistency, loyalty, and care for them. I encourage you to focus on connecting back once a month or bi-monthly with the people you connect with.

There’s still a stigma about mental illness and a lot of people still keep to themselves because of it. I constantly hear people say, “mental illness isn’t real," “there’s nothing in your life to be depressed about," “you’re being dramatic," among other statements. Coming from a military career, I know several people who wouldn’t seek treatment because of the fear of losing their job or getting kicked out of the military. I spent eight years as an intelligence analyst in the United States Air Force. During my service, my husband deployed to Afghanistan, supporting small bases throughout the most dangerous provinces. There were times that I wouldn’t be able to hear from him. Alleviate Anxiety Through Exercise B Y BR I TT I N I E WI CK

One specific morning, I went into work and was briefed that a small base was attacked, and six Americans were killed. My husband was at that base, and it was several days since I heard from him. My heart was in my stomach. I immediately asked my supervisor to go to the gym. I got onto that treadmill and ran. I ran faster and faster until my anxiety and nerves calmed down. That’s when I acknowledged what working out did and will continue to do for me mentally and emotionally. We all get anxious sometimes, and when this happens, our body initiates our fight or flight response and begins looking for physical danger. But because anxiety doesn’t stem from physical danger, our brains can be confused by the feeling of danger - which can make us feel tense, uncomfortable, nervous, panicked, worried, overwhelmed, and/or out of control. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 1 in 13 adults worldwide suffers from anxiety. (If you struggle with an anxiety disorder, seek a qualified professional who can monitor and treat your anxiety. I am not a qualified professional.)

Women are pillars of strength for millions of families. Members of a tribe look up to matriarchs for sage advice, wisdom, and strength. Generations often provide unconditional support to loved ones without consideration for their own well- being. There is an innate responsibility to give others an immense dose of what is needed because it’s “what we do,” but also for the expectations tied into our roles as women in society. Who doesn’t know a woman that hasn’t sacrificed for love? The emotion can be overwhelming, touching every fiber of our being. A desire to give everything to the people we love comes natural to us. Unfortunately, love for ourselves doesn’t always prevail. We are left behind, emptying the love tank for others to benefit. It seems unfair for anyone to unload so much caring externally without nurturing the self, first. Learning to love yourself, sometimes takes time. It requires women to give themselves permission that allows for room to breathe on their own.

This pilgrimage of womanhood has offered the opportunity to meet amazing women from all walks of life all over the world. As it turns out, my story has resonated with countless women which have fueled the purpose to expose this thread women share. Astonishingly, even in the worst of times, we have been known to muddle through or burst at the seams in silence. Where are you in your journey? Many emboldened females starring in a one-woman show are showstoppers. Women acting as mother and father, caretakers, nurses, teachers, chefs, drivers, counselors to juggle a partner, children, and careers. Undoubtedly, these are high heels fit for a queen! A big job to fulfill by anyone’s standards! Being a woman is a major responsibility and a beautiful gift. Women are challenged to multitask duties while balancing relationships in their daily lives including the one with themselves. No stranger to losing identities in the process, a perfect storm is created causing an internal vortex of resentment, frustration, exhaustion, Self-love nourishes the soul, mind, and body, whether we acknowledge it, it is necessary for overall health.

Several years ago, I made the decision to write the book “The Journey to Becoming the Best Self” and started Awakened-Woman to share my personal journey and help other women. Opening the door to this intimate part of my life was not easy. Losing myself in a relationship and motherhood left me feeling alone but I could not be the only one. I began by asking the tough questions, the path became increasingly difficult, however, I was at the point of no return. This onset of self-discovery forced me to embrace my truths, own them, and make a commitment to honor the woman I was meant to be. I did not understand at the time, the awakening would change everything. It was an experience that I could not come back from, transforming into my true self. This unraveling is endless, the learning never stops but is well worth the growing pains.

EMFS ARE THE NEW SMOKING GUN by Scott Manduck It used to be healthy to smoke,

or at least that’s what was promoted in the media. It seems absurd to think about today, but when doctors, scientists, and politicians all promoted their use, you really can’t blame the population for believing them. What Americans didn’t know was that there was a lucrative reason behind the ‘smoking is healthy’ consensus: Big Tobacco.

This unholy alliance of tobacco companies colluded together to sway popular opinion by paying off one influencer at a time. Doctors, scientists, and politicians all succumbed to their greedy tactics while Big Tobacco reaped their smoky bounty, destroying America’s lungs one puff at a time. Despite early warning signs, it

took governments 50 years to start taking any action. Meanwhile, large portions of the population were becoming addicted as their health became severely compromised. Second-hand smoke added insult to injury as the children grew up scarred by tobacco- infused air.

At this point, we want to blame the everyday person. They ought to know better! Can’t they tell it’s harming them and their children? As easy as it is to blame our ancestors, we dare not do it because right now we are obliviously repeating their curse. No, not with Big Tobacco, but rather with Big Wireless. The New Town Bully Just as Big Tobacco was created by a group of profit-seeking tobacco companies, Big Wireless is created by a profit-seeking group of very wealthy wireless network companies. Just like Big Tobacco, Big Wireless has their money-coated hands pulling the strings of politics and science, even going so far as to influence doctors and healthcare.

As one biased scientific article comes out after another, doctors, politicians, and cell phone users are all believing that their beloved communication devices are perfectly safe. And while we are all getting addicted to these wireless technologies, the early warning signs are VERY CLEAR and our children are getting the worst of it. For those of us who don’t yet know, the problem with these wireless technologies is electromagnetic field radiation (EMFs). Not all EMFs are bad, but the artificial ones from our wireless technologies are slow- cooking us with radiation.

One of the many reasons EMFs harm our body so much is because it stresses our body constantly. As you know, when your body is stressed it goes into fight or flight mode and it cannot rest and rejuvenate itself. This EMF heal-block creates a toxic environment where our bodies take more damage from all other sources while being disabled from repairing itself. Look, I love my cell phone as much as you, but we need to take a brave look at the early warning signs: Leading EMF scientists want EMFs to be classified as a “Class 1″ definite carcinogen (alongside smoking and asbestos). The top functional medicine doctors (like Dr. Dietrich Klinghardt, MD, Ph.D.) are concluding that EMFs are the root cause of critical symptoms including insomnia, fatigue, depression, headaches, and even digestive issues. Our EMF safety standards are from 1996 and haven’t been updated since. Four of the cornerstone scientific studies that our safety standards are based on are from short-term exposure to ONE device and don’t take in consideration for children exposed to multiple devices for an extended period of time. Cellphone small print says not to keep the phone near your body (but who listens to that?)

GET TO KNOW JESSICA

Hey there, I’m Jessica Durbin. I am the wife of a Navy Corpsman Veteran and the mother of two beautiful girls. I am also a third-generation tax preparer, bookkeeper, and financial wellness coach. I have been in and around the financial world my entire life. Whether it was filing paperwork, answering phones, greeting clients, payroll, bookkeeping, you name it. When I was 18, I started doing appointments for taxes but my confidence wasn't there and I didn’t have that certain customer service vibe that you need when working face-to-face with tax clients. I made the decision that I didn’t want to do what my family does and I left for culinary school in San Francisco. I LOVE cooking but once it became a job that excitement went away. I was around 22 years old when I decided to move back home. Fast forward 5 years, I was working as a manager at Panera Bread when I realized I wanted to be my own boss and work smarter not harder.

I started doing taxes and bookkeeping again on the side of my managing job and trained under my Granny all while I was pregnant with my first daughter. Then, I had an epiphany, I might be really good at this. This type of work comes very naturally to me plus all of my years in the culinary

industry gave me that customer service that I needed. I was 8 months pregnant when I quit my regular job to become self- employed and it was the scariest thing I had ever done. I was giving up this guaranteed paycheck every two weeks for a business that might not work out. I was also motivated and ready to create something amazing but I wanted to do more than just taxes and bookkeeping. I came to the conclusion that we weren’t taught this type of finance in school and budgets came so easily to me. My goal was, and still is, to bring financial awareness and wellness to people’s lives. I launched my financial coaching service and it took off! It brings me so much joy helping people achieve their financial goals. I enable people to live their ideal lives by making the most of their assets and investing wisely for that future. I educate clients on the basics of personal finance and, as a team, create a spending plan that reflects the values and goals of the client.

Shift Your Chakras to the Vibrancy

A hike in the woods with the vibrant reds, oranges, and yellows will tell you what’s upon us, Fall. Stop and take a moment to breathe in the scents, the colors, and the sensations of the shift that is happening with the seasons and with your health and your body. As you twirl around in the colorful leaves, take notice of their vibrancy. The orange pigments are constant; their showiness in the fall is predictable. But the red pigments are created in the autumn in response to light, plant chemical changes, temperature, and water supply. This is where weather affects the brilliance of the fall color display. The same applies to our bodies and our health. What comes out – bright, cheerfulness, and healthy or dark, gloomy, and unhealthy - is in response to what we put into our

bodies and how we choose to surround ourselves. Fall is the perfect time to make a positive energy shift! Just like nature our bodies experience changes in energy. While our bodies, just like all matter, are made up of energy. There are seven key points called chakras. These chakras are like spinning vortexes of energy, and they directly affect the physical state of our body. Each chakra has a corresponding color, area of focus, vibrational frequency and tone. When energy in a Chakra is deficient, it is said to be blocked or closed. In this state, energy cannot flow. When energy in a Chakra is in excess, it is stuck in an open state and too much energy flows or leaks. Both conditions leave you feeling depleted and out of balance.

HOW TO KNOW IF YOU HAVE A FERTILE BODY ANDWHAT TO DO IF YOU DON'T...

When I first meet with my clients, we talk a lot about how your cycle is functioning. I ask you questions about your period and the four phases of your cycle. We look at how these phases are functioning (or dysfunction) which tells me a lot about how your reproductive system is working. These are clues that tell me how fertile you are. Optimal menstrual cycle A regular menstrual cycle comes every 28-35 days. Efficient ovulation- This occurs between days, 14- 21. Cervical mucus- This should come with ovulation and be a clear, egg white consistency

So what do you do if your body isn’t fertile?

The Hormone P.U.Z.Z.L.E method. This is the method that I used to get myself pregnant naturally after years of failed attempts and an "unexplained infertility" diagnosis and it's what I use with clients around the world to help them get pregnant and extremely fertile. "What Piece are you missing?"

Z Zapping stress - Stress is the second leading cause of fertility- related issues. Your body will always take from other systems to make stress hormones. Especially cortisol and adrenaline and will stop all baby-making processes.

Proper, whole food nutrition- Eat the magic plate. Eat the rainbow, Lots of antioxidants, fiber, and lean protein. Getting adequate sleep is essential when trying to create an optimal environment for a healthy baby.

U Understanding supplements- There are many supplements on the market that are meant to help you boost your fertility naturally but you have to be careful because if you take the wrong supplement for you, you can actually do more harm than good.

Love and Encouragement- The mental part of fertility is just as important as the physical part. Being in a loving and caring relationship with a partner and having a strong support system for encouragement and to hold your hand through this difficult time.

Exercise- Making sure you are exercising based on where you are in your cycle will either work for or against your hormones and allow your body to flow nicely with itself.

HOW TO DEAL WITH CONSTANTLY FEEL ING OVERWHELMED? WRITTEN BY BEN IVEY

This year has been a rollercoaster. We’ve gone from a free interconnected world to being limited to our homes. Without a dedicated office space to work, leaders, entrepreneurs and coaches alike have all been struggling with overwhelm. Whether it’s the constant emails hitting your inbox, struggling to draw a line between “work” and “home,” the long list of tasks left unfinished at the end of each day or even splitting daycare time between yourself and your partner between work calls. We’re constantly being pulled in multiple directions during the day.

I won’t say that you’ll never experience overwhelm again because the truth is you will. Instead, I want to focus on how you can move out of overwhelming and perhaps even avoid it in the first place. Take mini-breaks Did you know that your emotional state is directly proportional to the amount of overwhelm that you feel? We could put you in the same scenario but in a different emotional state. One time you would be flying, knocking out tasks like a champion.

Other times you’d think there is no way I could possibly tackle all of those tasks.

A great question to ask instead could be: How can I tackle this in a simple easy way? Externalize your mind Having worked with thousands of entrepreneurs from all walks of life, one of the biggest challenges I see is storing tasks in our minds. If you use your brain to store all the tasks you have to do you’ll feel overwhelmed. Instead, you want to externalize your mind, you want to find a piece of software that acts as a second brain. This enables you to use your mind for analyzing as opposed to storage. This is incredibly important when you are taking on multiple projects or tackling a variety of tasks during the day. If you can take mini-breaks throughout the day for 5-15 minutes, it allows your brain to recharge. You’ll feel more focused and able to take more challenging projects. For some individuals, a lack of mini-breaks will lead to procrastination. When you’re overwhelmed you may ask yourself questions such as:

· Why do I have so much to do? · Why can’t I deal with this? · Is life always going to be this way?

If you ask a bad question, you’ll get a bad answer. Becoming aware of the questions that you ask yourself can help lift your spirits and encourage productivity. Asking yourself "why am I failing" and other negative questions can often lead into a downward spiral of negative overwhelm.
