Paddle Information

Join the fun!

If you’re looking for a way to mix friendly competition with great food, drinks, and time spent with fellow members, our Paddle Tennis League might be the perfect fit!

Here’s how it works: ·Women’s matches are played every Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. ·Men’s matches vary depending on the division—played on Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday evenings. -We even have a Women’s Day League for those who prefer playing weekday mornings at 9 a.m. (ask if you’d like more info!). Each week, you’ll visit different country clubs, with half of the matches hosted at ECC and the other half away. When we’re at home, Edgewood rolls out the hospitality with catered food (for a small fee). For away matches, it’s even easier—you just show up with your racquet, and the host team takes care of the rest. For the women, Wednesday nights are Paddle Nights—everyone’s on the courts, just in different divisions and locations. For the men, matches are spread across Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, but the spirit is the same—competition, community, and fun. ECC has three women night teams which are D2, D4 and D5 and four men night teams which are D3, D6, D7 and D9. Don’t worry—there are always chances to “play up.” Subbing into a higher division is not only exciting but also a great way to challenge yourself. Practices are usually held during the week or on weekends, at least once a week. Of course, we understand that life can be busy—some players only make matches, and that’s perfectly fine. 📅 League play begins at the end of September and runs through the end of February. 📧 Interested? Reach out to Jen Merck (rosalee1978@gmail.com) for more information. Registration will be through the league’s website, which also keeps track of schedules, standings, and results. Whether you’re brand-new to league play or a seasoned paddle pro, the ECC Paddle Tennis League is about more than the game—it’s about friendship, competition, and plenty of laughs along the way.

See you on the courts!

A Note from Jen

My Paddle Journey

This fall marks my 10th year of playing paddle tennis, and I can honestly say this sport has changed my life. When I first started, I was on the lowest division team— just learning the ropes and trying to keep up, I didn’t even know how to keep score! Over the years, with a lot of practice (and plenty of missed shots along the way), I’ve worked my way up to the top division here at ECC. What I love most about paddle is that it challenges both your mind and body. The strategy keeps you sharp, while all the footwork and movement really push you physically. But more than that, paddle has given me a wonderful community. I’ve made lifelong friends on the courts and shared so many laughs—whether at practice, during matches, or over a post-game drink. Along the way, I’ve also had the chance to attend paddle tournaments around the area—which is a whole different level of excitement. The competition is always tough, but the energy and atmosphere make it such a blast. And yes—I’m proud to say I even won a tournament or two! The victory was such a rewarding reminder of how far I’ve come since my first season. And finally, this sport has taken me on adventures beyond ECC! I’ve been lucky enough to attend two paddle camps—one in Telluride, Colorado, and one in the Adirondacks. Both were incredible experiences where I learned a lot, played hard, and got to hang out with my ECC friends. Paddle tennis has become more than just a sport for me—it’s a passion, a workout, a stress reliever, and a social outlet all in one. I’m so excited for another season ahead at Edgewood, and I hope many of you will join in the fun. Who knows—you might just find yourself falling in love with the game like I did!

FALL/WINTER 2025, VOL 47, ISSUE 2

From The Golf Pro

PETER MICKLEWRIGHT HEAD GOLF PROFESSIONAL

If you are like many players including myself, September and October are personal favorite times of year to play a round of golf. The climate is ideal and nature provides a great background to come out and make some swings. Greens aeration has already occurred. Following a summer where rounds were fantastic when the weather allowed (unfortunately there were MANY days the weather was not our friend), we will see what the fall temperatures bring us to keep the season going. Come out and play! With the amount of daylight changing, so does our first tee time on weekends and certain hours of operation. Starting after Labor Day, the first tee time on weekends will be 7:30 AM. The first time on weekdays will stay at 8:00 AM. Those hours will change again in October and November. During the month of October we will be doing our fall fairway aeration on the Golf Course. The fairway aeration will be done on October 14- 16. During those days, the entire golf course, golf shop, and driving range are closed. The Golf Shop hours for the months of September and October will be 7:30 AM – 7:00 PM on Tuesday thru Friday and 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM on weekends. If there is nobody on the course, the shop will close at 6:00 PM.The driving range will be open Tuesday through Sunday 7:30 AM – 6:00 PM. These hours will reduce again come November and December. The Driving Range will close for the season on November 30 . th Assuming we do not have an outing, the Golf Shop, Driving Range, and Bag Room will be closed on Mondays. The course will be open for walking only after 12:00 PM on Mondays when the golf shop is closed. Please see the club calendar for a list of upcoming Monday outings.

September and October feature some of the best events we run all year. We still have the Ladies Invitational on September 4 , Men’s Super Stag on September 26 , Twilight Glow Golf on October 3 , and our Spooky Big Hole Scramble on October 25 . Ladies Closing Day is September 30 followed by the Men’s Closing Day on October 4 . th th rd th th th We will host our Annual ECC Champions and Hole in One Club Dinner on Wednesday, October 22nd. This night is FREE for all our members currently in the Hole in One Club. This hole in one club is an opt out program so as a golfing member you are automatically in it unless you contacted the club and said you wanted to be removed. Everyone is welcome to attend. It will honor all of our event champions from the season and all members who made a hole in one this year. The free cocktails and heavy appetizers begin at 6:00PM and the awards ceremony starts at 6:30 PM. More info on how to sign up will come soon.

All of the new fall merchandise is starting to roll into the golf shop. New lines from Peter Millar, Travis Matthew, Greyson, Johnnie O, and Straight Down have recently arrived or will be coming soon.

October also brings our exciting ECC Field Trip to Pinehurst. Myself and 37 members will play courses 2, 8, and 10 down in the “American home of golf” from October 8-12. Next years trip to Portugal is already sold out. If you would like on that wait list, please let me know. Or if you are thinking of booking a golf trip of your own anytime soon, I am here to help. Through decades of traveling to many locations, I have a vast amount of contacts and can help you create your dream trip. We all love to play golf on vacation, but how many of you can say you enjoy lugging your clubs with you to and from the airport. Let us take one of the biggest headaches of golf travel away from you. Simply drop off your clubs to the Edgewood Golf Shop and we will ship your clubs to their required destination using Ship Sticks. Ship Sticks will guarantee on time delivery, offer insurance, ship to domestic locations, and offer 24/7 customer assistance. It is the home of hassle-free travel when dealing with golf clubs. The next time your travel calls for your golf clubs to come along, let us help make your trip easier by using Ship Sticks.

FALL/WINTER 2025 , VOL 47, ISSUE 2

As the fall season hits full swing, many members have talked to me about the amount of ball marks that are not getting fixed on our greens and especially our practice greens. When playing and practicing, please keep in mind this is your golf course. Please fix any unrepaired ball marks and repair all divots. If riding please use common sense on where to put golf carts. Keep them in the higher areas on wet day and on the cart paths when asked to do so especially around the greens and tees. By using common sense and some caution, together we can keep this one of the best conditioned courses in Western PA. Keep an eye on your inbox for the 3 weekly emails from me. Tuesday features the upcoming golf events. Wednesday is our ever-popular member spotlight, and Thursdays will feature a sale of the week. All come out at 9:00 AM.

Fall is a great time to play a round of golf. We look forward seeing everyone soon
