The UAB Men’s Basketball team will face Vanderbilt, an NCAA Tournament team last season, in an exhibition game on Thursday, October 23 in Bartow Arena. UAB last played Vanderbilt in the NIT Quarterfinal on March 22, 2023 when UAB used a 43-point second half to beat the Commodores 67-59 and advanced to the NIT Semifinals in Las Vegas. “We are excited to play Vanderbilt in an exhibition game to start our 2025-26 season,” head coach Andy Kennedy said. “The Commodores will be the first SEC opponent to play in Bartow Arena since we hosted South Carolina in 2022 and only the third to play in Bartow over the last nine seasons. This NCAA tournament team from last season will be a tremendous early test for our new group of Blazers.” UAB will also face Western Kentucky in an exhibition game on Wednesday, Oct. 29 in Bartow Arena. UAB played Western Kentucky last year in an exhibition game that saw an 88-79 win for UAB. The Blazers hold a 27-18 overall record against the Hilltoppers with the last regular season matchup coming at Bartow Arena in January 2023. UAB also played at WKU in the 2023 season in February. “I am looking forward to having one of our longest rivals back in Bartow for our second exhibition,” Andy Kennedy said. “The Hilltoppers are returning the game from our exhibition last year at Western Kentucky. Another great opportunity, after Vanderbilt, to test ourselves in preparation for our home opener on November 3rd.” UAB’s home and away conference matchups have also been announced. The Blazers will face Wichita State, Florida Atlantic, and Rice at home, while traveling on the road to Temple, UTSA, and Charlotte. UAB is 74-15 in the Andy Kennedy era dating back to the 2020-21 season. UAB will face Memphis, Tulane, South Florida, Tulsa, North Texas, and East Carolina twice during the regular season, both home and away. UAB finished with an 8-6 record against these opponents last year, including three games against Memphis and North Texas. Andy Kennedy and UAB have made four straight conference Championship games, winning two of those (2022 with Conference USA and 2024 with the American Conference). The Blazers return only two minutes of playing time from senior Joey Kahn. Tickets for the exhibition matchup against Western Kentucky will go on sale to the public on October 14 in conjunction with single game tickets for the 2025-26 season. UAB men’s basketball season ticket holders and active Blazer Boosters members will have an exclusive presale for additional 2025-26 single game tickets, including the ability to purchase their season ticket locations for the WKU exhibition, starting on September 26 prior to going on sale to the general public on October 14. More information will be released at a later date. UAB Exhibition Basketball Games Crossville's Jaylah Santoyo (#1) attempts to make a play during the Lady Lions Volleyball Tri-match on September 15 at Geraldine.
