Upon entering, one need only look up to the soaring ceilings to appreciate how the home’s architecture inherently creates drama throughout the space. Plachter and her team worked to make sure that each of the house’s gathering spaces had a distinct energy. The den—with its low ceilings and wood beams—offers a cozy ambience for movie night. A spiral staircase leads the way to an intimate wine cellar. The living room has a feeling of impres- sive formality, while the solarium cues guests to let loose with inviting seating vignettes and a bar worth toasting. Eating areas are also imbued with identity: moody glamor in the dining room con- trasts the sunny casualness of the kitchen. Inventive solutions were required to make sure everyone could book passage to dreamland. This included creating a double-bunk bedroom and add- ing a bedroom in the basement. But Plachter saved some love for the home’s more diminutive areas as well. “We believe powder rooms and smaller spac- es are perfect for taking design risks and creating memorable moments,” she says. She aimed to connect the powder room visually to the rest of the house with a daring teal-wood veneer wallcovering. And she chose a high-gloss vanity to reflect light, enhance the room’s darker tones, and add glamor. The clients were thrilled by the outcome. “The overall feel is gracious and glamorous—a perfect
