Montreal Canadiens in the first round of the NHL Playoffs. It has been (and will continue to be) a very physical series. The Habs are the youngest team in the playoffs and the Lightning are the most penalized team in the playoffs … the young, wild kids -vs- the tough, battle-tested old guys! This is the ninth year in a row the Lightning have made the playoffs!

TAMPA BAY RAYS – The Rays are a true question-mark team … are they good? … do they stink? … can they hit? … can they field? … do they have enough pitching? All these questions are hard to answer. The team started off ok and at the end of the season’s first month, they find themselves above .500 and in contention.

TAMPA BAY BUCS – The NFL draft was last month and the Bucs have a few new players! I love Rueben Bain (LB from Miami) he is a stud, he’s got attitude and he will hopefully be a Buc for many years to come! In round two, the Bucs grabbed LB Josiah Trotter from Missouri and in the third round they selected Georgia State WR Ted Hurst. In round four the Bucs took Keionte Scott a safety and teammate of Bain from Miami. They concluded the draft by picking Billy Scrauth (G-Notre Dame), DeMonte Capehart (DT Clemson) and Bauer Sharp (TE from LSU).
KENTUCKY DERBY – The Derby takes place on Saturday March 2 at Churchill Downs. I think it will be a wide-open race with plenty of good, solid racehorses. There will be multiple horses that ran at Tampa Bay Downs and they all have legitimate chances to win. Renegade will be the favorite and I love big closers at Churchill Downs and I also like The Puma, Fur- ther Ado & Chief Wallabee. I will also use Commandment on a few tickets.
Will the team miss WR Mike Evans & LB Lavonte David? Of course but they are replaceable. The WR room still has Godwin, Egbuka, Johnson & McMillian and the signing of LB Alex Anzalone from Detroit is perfect. I also love the offseason acquisition of RB Kennth Gainwell, who is a good running back and a great pass catcher. Can’t wait for the NFL season baby!
