GREETINGS FROM THE COLUMBUS ZOO AND THE WILDS!
over the next 15 years. Years in the making, this reimagined region is much more than a renovation. It is a bold step forward in animal wellbeing, guest experience, and education. And it is just the beginning of what we have referred to as “Columbus Zoo 3.0.” Another milestone we are proud to share: the launch of the Ohio Center for Wildlife Conservation—our first-ever public-facing building dedicated solely to our local and regional wildlife conservation efforts. You can find the Center in the North America Trek region. From eastern hellbenders to American burying beetles, this new center will spotlight the impact of your support and the work happening right here in our own backyard. As we approach our centennial in 2027, our mission is more important than ever. And while we are proud of the transformation underway at the Columbus Zoo and our sister parks—The Wilds, Zoombezi Bay, and Safari Golf Club—what inspires us most is the community that continues to walk alongside us. We want to do more, and with your help, we can. Thank you for being part of this journey. Together, we are going far.
Dear Friends and Supporters, This past year was a powerful reminder that collaboration—not just within our organization, but with our partners, members, donors, and community—is what propels us forward. And we have made significant strides together. We are proud to present you with the 2024 Impact Report which demonstrates how the power of collaboration helps us fulfill our mission of Empowering People. Saving Wildlife. We could not do this without you. From groundbreaking capital projects to the continued evolution of our conservation work, 2024 was a year defined by partnership and progress. We have invested millions of dollars in capital improvements over the last several years. These investments support new habitats, critical infrastructure upgrades, guest amenities, and enhanced experiences across all four of our parks. Looking ahead, we have launched our first five-year, rolling Capital Improvement Plan to build on this momentum at the Columbus Zoo and The Wilds. One of the most visible examples of this progress is North America Trek, which opens at the start of the summer. North America Trek is the first major initiative to come out of our 2040 Framework—a long-term vision that will transform our campus

Conservation is made possible by people—those who give their energy, share their passion, give back, and inspire others to care. In this section, we celebrate a few of these everyday heroes across our organization and community, whose dedication helps save species, uplift communities, and spark a lifelong passion for caring about the natural world. Their voices reflect the heart of who we are and why this work matters.
“It is inspiring and pioneering to see the Zoo’s commitment to professional development and growing leaders in the zoo and aquarium field right here at our own facilities.”
“Through good times and hard, it's been a special privilege to assist our Columbus Zoo team in their dedication and world- wide outreach.”
Dr. Priya Bapodra-Villaverde Senior Veterinarian, Columbus Zoo and Aquarium
Jeana Price Columbus Zoo and Aquarium docent (since 1972)
“Helping wildlife helps people, and helping people helps wildlife. A donation to the Zoo and The Wilds means I can play a small role in making the world a better place for both.”
“ I truly enjoy the animal aspect of our work, but I’m also inspired by watching our teams succeed. We push ourselves to do even more for the animals, share ideas, and celebrate each other’s wins—and it’s exciting to be part of that.”
Krista Hyme Longtime supporter of the Columbus Zoo and The Wilds
Adam Felts Senior Curator of Animal Care and Director of Animal Wellbeing, Columbus Zoo and Aquarium
“...we have had great leadership [at The Wilds] from the beginning, with the vision to build the programs and partnerships we have working today.”
"My hope for the future is that The Wilds will continue to grow and to be recognized and appreciated as the very unique organization that it is."
Dan Beetem Director of Animal Management, The Wilds
Bonnie Miller Wilds Volunteer

“I was able to learn about the ocean, how human activities are affecting the ocean, and how the ocean is vital to all life on earth. I was surprised to
learn how much trash is generated on islands in the Caribbean and how difficult it is to dispose of it. It also had an impact on me how overfishing affects the food chain. Andros Island is the third largest barrier reef in the world—they have
the highest concentration of blue holes [large underwater caverns or sinkholes] in the world. Because they have so many unique species living there, they must be protected. A highlight for me from that week was definitely being able to jump into one of the biggest blue holes. It was great to meet people from other cultures. They were all very nice, polite, and they brought great energy! I hope that other students who have a chance to go on this trip learn how important the ocean is and—for those who want to become marine biologists or marine conservationists—this gives them the inspiration to continue their career path." — Nicholas C. , Columbus City Schools student
