Bells Lake Road will be one of five major routes supplying access into Fuquay-Varina from Future NC 540. As access into the Town becomes easier, considerations for the development and street elements to support these changes need to be considered. Additionally, this road is shared with the Town of Cary and it will be necessary to coordinate efforts to ensure that each Town has a shared vision for the future of the corridor. Bells Lake Road is planned to be a 4-lane median divided roadway surrounded by primarily existing large lot residential. In order to help maintain character, consideration should be given to include lighting and streetscaping near the commercial village. Also, when locating the proposed sidepaths, space for potential future widening to four-lanes should be left and can be utilized in the interim for additional streetscaping and buffer space. As Bells Lake Road nears Optimist Farm Road, consideration should be given to include a natural area such as tree coverage, open space, or a park to help transition between the character of a commercial village and residential area. Median landscaping should be transitioned to low growing shrubs to help maintain a more suburban feel. Additionally, lighting elements may not be as important.
