Action Plan This section discusses the appropriate steps for local leaders to implement the recommendations of this plan and key agencies that should be involved with the task. It is not expected that all of the listed items would be completed over the next several years; however, the process should be initiated to best take advantage of the momentum gained with the development of this plan. Beyond the tasks listed below, it is vital to the success of this plan that Fuquay- Varina continues to work with and educate local citizens and businesses. While public support can encourage implementation, opposition can significantly delay a project. It will be important to encourage advocacy and maintain focus on those issues identified as important during preparation of the CTP. Policy Measures The Town currently works with CAMPO and the County to ensure that roadway corridors are preserved as development applications are considered. Transportation planning is an evolving process. Historically, many projects throughout the State have been impacted by development that was not responsive to the adopted plans. The Town has responded to the evolving planning environment by fostering a coordinated and collaborative process. Town staff will continue to work cooperatively to review proposed development applications and seek reasonable alternatives where necessary. In an effort to improve corridor protection, copies of the adopted plan also should be forwarded to CAMPO, Wake County, NCDOT, and the Fuquay-Varina Chamber of Commerce. Additional copies should be made available for public review at Town Hall. Before outlining a strategy for new policy and program recommendations, it is important to first reflect on the policies that are already in place within the Town. The following table documents the key policies that are being used to address transportation needs within the Town. More information on current policies and programs being implemented by the Town can be found in Volume 2: Technical Documentation of this report.
