ICPF To Provide Colleges $1M For Corrugated Curricula During the past two decades, the International Cor- rugated Packaging Foundation (ICPF) has placed al- most $12 million of equipment, and millions more in software, within packaging programs at colleges and universities around the nation. Earlier this year, the ICPF Board of Directors re- viewed ten university proposals to further advance its corrugated curricula for students. The university pro- posals were received in response to ICPF’s Corrugat- ed Packaging Awards request for proposals that was released late last year. Because of the strength of the entries, the ICPF Board voted to provide funding and equipment over a three year period to support new initiatives at all ten universities. Funding was addition- ally approved for a rolling ICPF Corrugated Packaging Awards program to which additional universities can annually apply as new opportunities emerge to ex- pand corrugated programming for students. After signing letters of asset and extended partner- ship agreements with ICPF, those universities that have been selected to receive funding, equipment, and design software over 2018, 2019, and 2020 in- clude Clemson University, Millersville University, Rut- gers University, North Carolina State University, Indiana State University, University of Texas at Arling-

ton, Western Michigan University, Cal Poly, Lewis- Clark State College and Virginia Tech. Some of the elements of the ten new initiatives en- abled by ICPF will include: the creation of three new corrugated packaging design labs; the funding for ad- ditional dedicated corrugated faculty at four universi- ties that will expand the curricula and the number of undergraduate students within each program; the in- troduction of corrugated sales and business into packaging coursework; the launch of corrugated packaging curricula within two existing paper sci- ence engineering programs; the creation and execu- tion of a prototype to promote corrugated packaging to attract additional high school students into univer- sity packaging classes; the introduction of digital printing on two campuses, the expansion of a pack- aging design program to include the evaluation and testing of corrugated materials; the creation of new packaging degrees and certification programs for un- dergraduate students; and expansions of existing test- ing and packaging design labs. ICPF works with students from more than 40 uni- versities annually and has more than 25 university partners that are currently teaching corrugated cur- ricula. Each year, these campuses provide qualified student interns and new graduates to the corrugated packaging & displays industry.
