Israeli Group: Cohen, Hishtil and Jaldety Arizona Series Thunbergia

Undoubtedly the most exciting introduction of this site were the new colors in the Arizona series of thunbergia. These were not your typical colors (or flower sizes). These mega-sized blooms came in colors completely dif- ferent from anything we’ve ever seen before. Crystal clear whites and bright vivid pinks are certainly going to add some new life to the class. Fast growing with an abun- dance of flowers, these will be a great addition to vine programs next spring. The Arizona series now has a total of 8 varieties with the 3 new ones this year: Pink, Rose Sensation andWhite Halo. Crimson & Gold Oxalis What’s so cool about this? Typically we think of oxalis as being strictly an ornamental foliage crop, but this new oxalis tuberosum from Hishtil have these large edible tubers; about the size of fingerling potatoes. These tubers are full of Vitamin B, C and iron and make a great treat at the end of the season for the gardener. Glow Series Petunias This medium vigor series of petunias is well suited for gallon and larger containers, and is recognized by the bright eye- catching colors across the line. They are generally early varieties, performing in lower light and temperatures, for great first-to-market plants. Tropical Pink and Stardust were two colors in this year’s show that really grabbed our attention. Jessica’s Sweet Pear Mint No, this is not a pear-flavored mint, but rather pear shaped in habit. Unlike traditional mints that spread and invade an entire herb combination container, Jessica’s Sweet Pear has a most unique upright habit—one that we’ve never seen before in this genus.
