Fuquay Varina Pedestrian Plan - Adopted 8-1-2022

Yield Roadway Recommendations

Note - Yield roadways are not specifically identified in the comprehensive network recommendations. Both yield roadways and advisory shoulders can be helpful treatments in situations where there may be major constraints (physically or financially) in implementing a better facility (ie: sidewalk). Yield roadways and advisory shoulders, in the appropriate context, can be utilized as nearer-term treatments to tilt a particular roadway toward a more pedestrian friendly environment.

Yield roadways can effectively serve local travel needs, maintain aesthetic preferences, and is a common form for low-volume local roads. When operating at very-low volumes and at low speeds, pedestrians are comfortable walking within the travel area of the roadway. Yield roadways are designed with narrow roadway dimensions to prioritize local access and community livability.

helpful traffic friction and ambiguity, contributing to a slow speed operating environment.

Within built up areas, particularly near residential land uses where most traffic is familiar with prevailing road conditions. Land Use

Use signs to warn road users of the special characteristics of the street. Potential signs include: • A PEDESTRIAN (W11-2) warning sign with ON ROADWAY legend plaque. • Use a Two-Way Traffic warning sign (W6-3) to clarify two-way operation of the road if any confusion exists.

A PEDESTRIAN (MUTCD sign W11-2) warning sign with ON ROADWAY legend plaque.

Use a Two-Way Traffic warning sign (MUTCD sign W6-3) to clarify two-way operation of the road if any confusion exists.
